If you have a pulse and attend UCSB it is evident that you are familiar with the Santa Catalina dorms, a.k.a “FT.” If you have not lived there as a freshman then maybe it seems as if it is a nice, new building with an awesome pool and a “homey” feel. Yet, if you have lived there you know the struggles of being a San Cat resident.
1. Hearing “Fuck FT” at all hours of the day and night
Really? Don’t you get tired of yelling it?
2. One word: Portola.
Uh…I think I’ll skip dinner tonight…
3. Wanting to go to DLG late night but not wanting to bike 15 minutes to get there
The struggle of wanting junk food at 11 pm…
4. Having a gap between classes and not knowing if you have enough time to go back to the dorm or if you should just stay on campus
We can nap in the library…right?
5. And when you do go back to the dorm the chance of going back to campus that day is virtually nonexistent
Nope. Not doing it.
6. How frustrating it is when people on the second floor use the elevator
JUST USE THE STAIRS PLEASE.
7. Trying to take the bus to and from campus but ending up downtown
*Going the complete opposite direction from campus* Uh oh…
8. How sweaty you get biking/walking to class
Sweat off your deodorant? Check. Sweat off your makeup? Check. Have damp backpack straps? Check.
9. How slow the elevator is… especially when it randomly decides to skip floors…or when the elevator has been broken for over three days…
Does walking up ten flights of stairs count as daily exercise?
10. The lack of parking options, and eventually having to park so far away that you ride your bike to get to your car
Going to the car will be saved for special occasions only please.
But at the end of the day, you love Santa Catalina anyways.
