1. Myth: You would eat whatever you want whenever you want, especially ice cream for breakfast!

Truth: You eat pizza every day for a week before you start craving vegetables and eating salad and fruit with every meal.  Servo doesn’t even open up the ice cream until partly through lunch, and even if they did, you realize that a balanced breakfast is important for doing well on exams.  In fact, you may be eating more healthily than you were when your parents were constantly reminding you to eat your vegetables!

2. Myth: You would have so much free time.

Truth: You haven’t slept for more than 6 hours a night in three weeks, and don’t even remember what the words “free time” mean.  Between classes, meals, homework, and clubs, you are constantly busy, and even though you could use a little bit more sleep, you love it!

3.  Myth: You would buy whatever you wanted.

Truth: Now that you have to buy everything for yourself, you stand there debating whether or not the five dollar item is really worth it.  When the money you are using is the money that you spent hours earning, you suddenly don’t want to spend it on anything, instead you go to events for the free food, pens, and shirts.4. Myth: Living on your own would be the coolest thing ever.

4. Myth: Living on your own would be the coolest thing ever.

Truth: While it is actually pretty cool, there are many things you never realized you would actually have to do when you moved to college.  Suddenly you have to actually vacuum, do your own laundry, make your bed, and other various chores, and you find yourself looking forward to when you can go home for breaks and not have to worry about all of them!

5. Myth: You will know what you want to be now that you have “grown up”.

Truth:  You have no idea what you want to do when you graduate, and are steadily beginning to freak out.  You have changed your major too many times to count, and once you find something you actually like, you realize that there is pretty much no chance you are going to be able to get a job in that field, because of course no one is hiring!

6.  Myth: You would be a mature adult.

Truth: You have never been so immature in your life.  You have four years to be a child before you either have to grow up and get a job, or go to grad school, so you take advantage of this time to be immature for a little bit longer.

7.  Myth: You would never have to take a nap again.

Truth:  The first thought that goes through your mind in the morning when you turn off your alarm is how long until you can go back to sleep.  Your sleep schedule is so off that you take like four naps a day, and then stay up until 2:00 in the morning doing homework.  There is no better feeling than laying down between classes for your afternoon nap.

8. Myth: You will be excited to not have to listen to your parents.

Truth: You miss your parents a ton, and have never realized before how much you rely on them.  In fact, you call them every few days with questions like, “Is it okay to dry this (insert item of clothing)?” or “How do I pay my credit card bill?”.  The best thing ever is when you can call your parents and get some of that advice that you ignored all through high school.

9.  Myth: You would never have to clean your room again.

Truth:  Even seeing just a few clothes on the floor stresses you out.  You clean up your room at least twice a week, make your bed pretty much every day, and sometimes even dust.  And although you may complain about it every once in awhile, you realize how much better you feel when your room is clean.

10.  Myth: You would love it.

Truth:  This one is actually true!  While there are some downfalls, such as having to do your own laundry, you love the freedom that comes with being an adult, and know that you can still act like a kid as long as you have finished your homework and chores first!
