Welcome colligiettes to the most wonderful time of the year! Halloween marks the time for giant sweaters, pumpkin patches, haunted houses and some of the best parties of your life. One of my favorite things about Halloween parties, however, is that you have a buttload of themes to choose from to make each fright night one to remember! From bloody to spooky, here’s how to host a creeptastic Halloween party with themes that are sure to make your guests squirm.

1. Cemetery

This is a classic theme that’s a classic for a reason. Whether you believe in them or not, everyone’s been scared of ghosts at one point in their life and everyone knows you shouldn’t walk in a cemetery alone at night. In order to truly pull off this theme you’ll need a lot of ghostly white fabric: preferably tulle, a fog machine, loads of creepy headstones and some moss to make it look realistic. Your guests will be sure to come back next year.

These ghostly orbs make for excellent decorations to hang from either the ceiling or trees outside.

2. Witches’ Circle

Planning a girl’s night for Halloween? With a theme like this, you and your girlfriends are sure to be cackling the night away. A few necessities include bottles filled with ingredients for evil potions, broomsticks and of course a few witches’ hats.

The most important part, however, is the witches’ brew so you and your witches can double double toil and trouble the night away!

3. Catacombs

Nothing is quite as terrifying as the french Catacombs. For this theme you’d need to dec out your entire house with creepy skulls and skeletons. In France, they’re stacked one on top of the other creating a very sinking feeling for the millions of tourists it attracts each year. These skulls, for your purposes, can be created from paper mache or printed out on large back drops.

Another really cool addition to this theme would be spiders and spider webs. These spiders in ice cubes is an excellent touch that should have your guests cringing.

4. Funhouse

Clowns are creepy af. I’m pretty sure we can all agree on that after American Horror Story’s Season 4 when they introduced us to the nightmare that was Twisty. Funhouses have had a slightly terrifying undertone for a long time but with decorations such as mirrors and neon and clowns galore, your guests will be running for the door.

To make that exit truly perfect you’ve got to have a classic Funhouse entryway, ready to swallow your guests into the night.

5. Dollhouse

As if Chuckie doesn’t haunt our dreams enough, you may as well take your guests’ childhoods and watch them burn. Go out to thrift stores and antique stores looking for cheap dolls that you can buy for a dollar and it won’t take too long before they become one of the creepiest themes on this list. One fun idea is to paint them white creating something eerie like this one here.

Another way to freak out your guests is to cut off your doll’s limbs, just pretend you’re your brother who used to do it to make you cry. Trust me, it makes for some very creepy decorations.

6. Mad Scientist

Become obsessed with science for a night, create chemical imbalances in the minds of your guests by showing them how mad you truly can be. This one should have some creepy glow in the dark slime, lab coats that become a lot more terrifying at night and the kind of terror you experienced upon reliving that time you had a science midterm you didn’t study for.

To add a little fun for those of you 21+, jello shots fit this theme perfectly!

7. Ouija Party

Have a fun night summoning the spirits of the underworld through a theme that has a built in party game. Have the rooms lit only with candlelight to set the mood of a spooky seance.

Just make sure to say goodbye before your guests leave or else you may have one extra who didn’t receive an introduction.

Happy haunting, lovelies! Enjoy one of the best holidays in all the world! Let us know how your night of ghosts and ghouls treats you!
