This past week celebrated the 15th anniversary since the fast-talking, pop culture loving, dynamic duo of Lorelei and Rory first graced our televisions with their presence. For me at least, I grew up watching this show and am still obsessed with it. I truly believe that my desire to be like Rory and Lorelei is the reason why my mom is my best friend, why I love reading, why I love everything pop culture, why I cannot survive without coffee, and ultimately why my dream is to be a journalist. I am sure that I am not the only one that feels this way, and in case you forgot just how spectacular this show is, I am about to list 15 very good reasons why it is still a must watch! Plus, all seven seasons are on Netflix so it is the perfect girl’s night binge show.
Â
1. Their love for junk food is contagious. Not to mention, all of their effortless one liners are 100% accurate.
Â
2. They were the original Netflix bingers with their lovely VHS tape marathons (featuring Dean, also know as Sam Winchester).
3. Their natural independent nature is something everyone can aspire to have. And they know how to assert their independence with delicious desserts. Â
4. They understand the finer things in life: Tacos. Â
5. One word: Kirk. He is secretly the embodiment of us all. Â
6. There is always Paris there to remind us of the importance of how what we do now impacts our future (cue the Harvard meltdown). Â
7. Our favorite sassy French garçon is always there to remind us that there is no time for dealing with stupid people – which c’mon we can relate to. Â
8. And when Michel isn’t there, Paris takes over the role of doling out killer remarks to those lacking important brain cells.Â
9. Rory can empathize with those of us that lug all of our wardrobe home for laundry, yet drop it all the second we get the chance. Â
10. Sookie feels us on an emotional and spiritual level. Â
11. They understand how you never really know who you are because who you are is always changing. Â
12. There is the best friend who calls you out when you’ve been on the crazy train for a little bit too long.Â
13. Mondays. They are hard. But they are necessary. Â
14. Rory is us. We are Rory. Â
15. And lastly, this show proves that sometimes everything isn’t the way you want it. But with the love of friends, family, and a positive outlook, everything will work out. Â
