During their time enrolled in college, 1 in 4 women will be the victims of sexual assault.

Of these assaults, 89% will occur when the victim is incapacitated due to the use of alcohol.

Taking initiative to insure your own safety is so important, and the #BeMyBuddy campaign aims to promote exactly that.

Penn State provides a safe walk escort service, where students can be accompanied to their destination by an auxiliary police officer at any time. The sad reality is most students don’t take advantage of this opportunity.

Designed to promote the Penn State escort service while raising awareness about the alarming statistics of sexual assault on campus, the #BeMyBuddy campaign plans to conquer social media to help keep students safe.

If you support the effort to end sexual assault on college campuses and increase students’ awareness to heighten safety, post the campaign’s slogan on all forms of social media to share with your family and friends:

“I’m stepping up to end sexual assault and asking a friend to #BeMyBuddy so no one walks home alone.” www.facebook.com/bemybuddypennstate.

By sharing the post, you’re sharing your voice and making sure that everyone knows about the resources available to ensure that they never have to walk home alone.

Stop by the HUB tomorrow from 10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. to learn more about the campaign and get free giveaways like coupons to Chipotle and Jersey Mike’s as well as t-shirts, candy, and gift cards.
