Joe Jonas Is Back And He Has Cake!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at MMM chapter.

Joe Jonas is back on the music scene, and not with tried-and-true band mates/brothers Kevin and Nick… He now serves as frontman in a new band called DNCE. The band formed this summer and released their first single, “Cake By The Ocean” on September 18 and let me tell you, it’s amaze.

The new band mates include guitarist JinJoo Lee, whom Jonas met on tour while Lee was playing for Jordan Sparks, Bassist and Keyboardist Cole Whittle, and Drummer Jack Lawless, who was actually the drummer for the Jonas Brothers way back in the day. After Joe released his solo album “FastLife” and spent a summer DJing at popular night clubs around the country, he wanted to take on a new project.

So what’s the deal? Why are they singing about “cake by the ocean”? Joe explains on DNCE’s website that while he was in the studio he overheard two of the bands collaborators, who are from Sweden, talking about getting drinks and that they wanted to try a ‘cake by the ocean’. They meant the drink ‘sex on the beach’ — and Joe found their mix up to be hilarious. From there, Jonas and the band knew they could make a fun, energetic song out of this play-on words. The DNCE website describes it as a “silky, swaggering piece of groove-heavy pop built on disco-jangly riffs but saturated with plenty of pure emotion and undeniable soul.”

DNCE is set to release their first EP titled “SWAAY” on October 23.
