Why Should Groundhogs Only be Featured One Day Each Year?

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Marist chapter.

This week’s campus celebrity can be seen all around campus in the warm sunny weather and rarely seen in the cold winter months. Arguably this celeb is most popular one on campus and everybody wants to grab a selfie with or take a photo of ‘em. As you’ve hopefully guessed by now, this week’s celebrity is…*drumroll please* The one and only, exclusive Marist College Groundhog!

Her Campus: So, Mr. Groundhog, I always see you running around campus. Have you considered trying out for the track team?Groundhog: Well actually I was a cross-country runner in high school but decided I didn’t want to pursue it in college. I still go for runs around campus all the time though.

HC: Do you have a nickname? Anything your friends call you?

GH: My buddies call me Woodchuck. But Groundhog is fine too. I answer to both so it’s really whichever you feel more comfortable with calling me.

HC: What’s your favorite thing to snack on while studying?

GH: I’m a herbivore, so I basically eat a variety of berries, grasses, greens, some small bugs…whatever I can get, really. But, I’d have to say my favorite study snack is a stray nut or two – cracking them open really helps me release all my stress.

HC: What would you say has been your greatest accomplish thus far, on campus or off?

GH: Not that many people know this because I don’t like to brag, but I was actually an extra in this movie with Bill Murray. It’s called Groundhog Day if you’ve ever heard of it. I have some pretty famous family members too. They get held up in the air every so often. Something to do with a shadow and snow?

HC: That sounds like so much fun! Have you done any other acting?

GH: No, not really. I missed it over here by the Hudson River and became extremely dedicated to my studies. I don’t plan on leaving Marist ever again.

HC: So no fun Winter or Spring break trips to Cancun or Miami?

GH: Well, actually, I usually hibernate from October or November until March or August. That’s usually why I’m not around much in the cold months. I don’t understand how you guys walk through the Marist wind-tunnels everyday. It’s freezing! I’d much rather stay in my warm burrow and watch Netflix…and chill.
