This week our Campus Celeb is Cara Hays (pictured above on the right), Vice President for Communications for MizzouThon! MizzouThon is the largest student-run philanthropy at Mizzou. Hays is a junior from Orland Park, IL and is studying Journalism here at Mizzou.Â
Â
Her Campus Mizzou:Â For anyone who doesn’t know, what is MizzouThon? Who does it benefit?Â
Cara Hays:Â MizzouThon is an organization that works throughout the year to raise money for the pediatric patients of mid-missouri. We directly benefit the MU Children’s hospital and we have recently pledge 1 million dollars to renovate the NICU!
Â
HCM: Why and how did you get involved with MizzouThon?
CH: I became involved in MizzouThon my freshman year as a dancer. There were quite a few girls in my sorority who were morale captains and they highly encouraged everyone to sign up. I didn’t realize it then but getting involved with MizzouThon would be the best decision of my collegiate career.
Â
HCM:Â What is your title on the MizzouThon leadership board? How long have you been a part of the organization?Â
CH:Â I am currently the Vice President of Communications and this is my second year on the leadership team. My sophomore year I was the Director of Internal Communications as well as the in-event fundraising speaker at the main event!
Â
HCM: What is your favorite memory from MizzouThon?
CH: My favorite memory from MizzouThon is the reveal at last year’s main event. It was a difficult year and to see all of our hard work come together to accomplish the $200,000 goal was incredible. I had never understood what it meant to “happy cry” until that moment.
Â
HCM: Why should people come to the main event?
CH:Â People should come to the Main Event because it’s life changing. The stories you hear, the children you meet, and the passion you see will leave you in awe. It’s also a great way to get involved on campus and meet some of the most amazing people at Mizzou!Â
Â
HCM:Â What other organizations are you involved in here on campus?
CH:Â I’m also a member of Alpha Chi Omega where I have held many different positions such as risk management representative, director of various skits, a lyre leader, etc.
