5 October Album Releases You Should Check Out

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BU chapter.

1) Demi Lovato’s Confident

Taking a new approach, Demi is clearly trying to attract a wider audience with more formulaic pop songs than her previous albums. She worked with successful producers who made many of the recent hits such as “Blank Space”. Confident is a fun album with standout songs that she wrote herself, such as “Father”, are lyrically deeper. Classic Demi shines through in “Stone Cold” and “Lionheart,” while “Stars” is a fun dance song.

Songs to check out: “Stone Cold,” “Confident”

2) Pentatonix’s Pentatonix

Pentatonix continues to bring a capella into the mainstream market with its fourth album. Famous for its covers, Pentatonix changed it up by adding original songs. There’s great range from EDM-esque (“Ref”) to slow ballads (“Light In the Hallway”) to classic pop covers (“Cheerleader” and “Lean On”).

Songs to check out: “Ref,” “New Year’s Day”

3) State Champs’ Around the World and Back

If pop punk is your thing, be sure to check out State Champs. This new album is exactly what you loved from past albums. As usual, clever lyrics and teen angst are combined to create songs full of energy you’ll be blasting from your speakers all day.

Songs to check out: “Secrets,” “Back and Forth”

4) 5 Seconds of Summer’s Sounds Good, Feels Good

In the wake of a successful world tour, 5 Seconds of Summer has released its sophomore album, featuring everything from upbeat anthems (“Hey Everybody”) to slower emo ballads (“Jet Black Heart”). Working closely with the Madden brothers of Good Charlotte, 5SOS is hitting harder topics with deeper lyrics and just as many (if not more) guitar riffs.

Songs to check out: “She’s Kinda Hot,” “Jet Black Heart”

5. Look forward to… The Neighbourhood’s Wiped Out!

As sweater weather arrives again, so do the musicians behind “Sweater Weather.” Look out for their new album coming out on October 30th!
