Can never go wrong with Wilf’s. My go-to is the chicken wings in Rock-and-Roll sauce.
Favourite thing about Laurier?
My favourite thing about Laurier is the real community vibe the school has. There is a really welcoming, positive, accepting attitude among the student population that differentiates Laurier from the other universities. We may be a smaller university but I feel that just adds to the experience. Even just walking from class to class you are guaranteed to run into at least a handful of people you know which really makes Laurier feel like home.
Quote you live by?
“Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around every once in a while, you could miss it.” – Ferris Bueller. I know its cliché, but I truly believe it. I don’t ever want to wake up one day and find my life passed me by while I was too busy with the day-to-day routine. Ferris Bueller’s Day Off just also happens to be my all-time favourite movie.
What is your number one method of getting through midterm season?
Besides consuming gallons of coffee, I always try to get up early and get as much done in the morning and throughout the afternoon as I can, so I can take evenings off. Having that time to kick back, hang with friends, or catch the hockey game (Go Wings) helps keep me sane.
What are you involved with on campus?
This year I was an icebreaker for the second time as a Green Bionic! I am also a returning exec on Free the Children Laurier and joined SOS as the VP of Human Resources. When I find free time outside of school and clubs, I also play on an intramural hockey and soccer team.
What was your favourite part of volunteering?
For me, it’s a combination of meeting new people and the rewarding feeling I get. By getting involved, you come into contact with tons of other people with common interests and personalities to you. The majority of my friends on campus are those that I have met through getting involved. I also get a lot of satisfaction from giving back. Whether it be welcoming the newest wave of Golden Hawks as an icebreaker or organizing fundraising projects with Free the Children, I’m very thankful for where I am in my life and all that I have, and I believe it’s important to pay it forward.
If you were to win $100 000 000 tomorrow, what is the first thing you would do?
Well the first thing I’d do would be to donate almost all of it. I’m big believer that no one needs that kind of money, and there are a lot of people in this world who could use it more than I could. I would save enough though to buy myself an old VW Westfalia van and drive it across all of North America. That’s one thing I’ve always dreamed of and would love to do.
What’s your spirit animal?
A liger. It’s probably my favourite animal. It’s like a lion and a tiger mixed, bred for its skills in magic.
What has been your favourite experience?
I was fortunate enough to have my company send me to New Zealand for a month of my co-op term this semester. I love to travel, so I was very excited at the chance to live on the other side of the world. After I finished my month of work, I took two weeks off, rented a camper van, and drove across the entire country with some friends. Along the way we went kayaking, hiking, snowboarding, and even bungee jumping, all while living out of a van.
A couple days after arriving back in Canada, I flew out again to Honduras where I helped in the construction of a vocational school with SOS. That was another amazing trip. We were able to get a lot done on the project and it was a great feeling knowing the people in the community will have someplace to go for education when it is complete. By the end of it all, I was totally exhausted, but it was the time of my life.
