Dressing up for Halloween is fun. Costumes can be witty, cute, scary or sexy. However, it’s hard to stay warm and stay true to your costume (especially the sexy costumes). So lets start with the basics.

Try and pick your costume based off of your environment. If you will be outside the whole time prepare a costume that fully covers you, but if you may be going inside remember to layer up so that you can take parts off if you get too hot. So remember the cute accessories you can wear to stay warm: a hat, cloves, fuzzy socks, and tights. So many sexy costumes require short skirts which leave you freezing at the end of the night. Tights are sexy and let you show leg without showing goose bumps.

Ok enough of that lets move on to what you want to really see, warm costume ideas!

The list starts with the very cute and quirky Luna Lovegood from Harry Potter. You can wear really anything with this as long as you make/buy the glasses and the wand.

Cruella de Vil, the classic Disney villain, is a perfect costume to bundle up in for Halloween. The key component, her fur patterned coat, can be found at most thrift stores and will keep you nice and toasty.

Kuzco from “The Emperor’s New Groove” is a bright fun costume that anyone can do. We recommend adding leggings with the original costume.

What about Alex, from “A Clockwork Orange.” You can really wear anything white so that allows you to bundle up as much as you like, but don’t forget the mascara or the cap.

Jessie from “Toy Story” is perfect because the costume is naturally warm with long sleeves and pants, but maybe add a fake cowhide patterned jacket for extra layers.

The classic image of the Morton salt girl is cute and warm. A yellow coat and white tights are what make this outfit not only cute, but comfortable in cooler weather.

Here is another blast from the past, Carmen Sandiego, from those old educational computer games.

Here’s one of Little Bo Peep’s lost sheep. A super sweet cotton ball costume will be great with black leggings and a black shirt underneath. (Pro tip: If you are looking for a pun costume, draw a black X over your mouth and go as Silence of the Lambs.

Morticia Addams, one of the sexiest and creepiest costumes you can wear. This costume is proof you don’t need a short skirt to be sexy.

This robber costume can be made with clothes from your closet and is a great last minute costume. The long sleeves, gloves, and hat make it perfect for fall nights.

Here’s another costume that can be made with your regular clothes. The great part about this one is that layering up makes the costume look even more authentic. (Adding a fake beard will also keep your face warm)

Elegant Mary Poppins is always prepared for the cold with her gloves, tights, and long sleeves.

Though Indiana Jones is normally in warmer climates, he never goes out without his leather jacket. Don’t forget yours!

Elliot with ET is an easy costume that looks good and keeps you bundled up in that red hoodie.

Convert a red table cloth into a fairy tale! Red Riding hood’s hood will give you a blanket around you at all times.

Even if you dress like a snow man you don’t have to be cold.

Finally here’s a not-so-scary scarecrow. The flannels will keep you warm, and the straw is actually another layer of authentic insulation.

I am a student at Davidson College in North Carolina. I love to write, read, play board games, and do crafts. I am currently a member of Her Campus Davidson and very excited about it! I have two dogs and a cat that I adore back at my home in Ohio. I am still undecided on what I want to do with my life, but the great part is I have lots of time. I like to be kept busy and have friends around. Feel free to say hi if you see me around campus because I love meeting new people!
