Homecoming Court 2015: Torri Burke

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Valdosta chapter.

Name: Victoria (Torri) Burke

Major: Healthcare Administration & Finance

Classification: Senior

Fun Fact: I am ambidextrous.

HC: Tell us a little about yourself!

TB: My name is Torri Burke. I am from Warner Robins, GA and this is my fourth year in Valdosta. I came to VSU because it was a good mix of “not-to-close but not-to-far,” and I fell in love my first year. Since I have been in Valdosta, I have found endless opportunities that I know without a doubt that I wouldn’t have found elsewhere. I am extremely honored and blessed to have been nominated by my sorority, Zeta Tau Alpha, to recognize our organization on campus for Homecoming Queen. I hope that all students on campus will take every chance presented to them to become as involved in possible, and remain involved in the community after graduation! Go Blazers!

HC: What are your aspirations in life?

TB: I aspire to eventually work in my field as a financial advisor for healthcare organizations. I also hope to be able to start a non-profit organization to serve those in my community that can not afford quality healthcare, by utilizing volunteer service hours and recycled or donated equipment.

HC: What are you involved in on campus?

TB: I currently serve as the Vice President of my sorority, of which I have also served as the Historian, Secretary, and Philanthropy Chair. I also currently serve as the Vice President of the Institute for Healthcare Improvement Chapter, a chapter that I helped charter this year, and the Co-President of Blazer Pride Football Recruiting. I represent the Healthcare Administration program on the Business Students Advisory Council, and I am a member of Order of Omega, the honors society that recognizes the top 3% of Greeks, and a member of Alpha Lambda Delta, a honors society that recognized the top 5% of freshmen, University Wide. I have also completed over 250 community service hours.

HC: What are you currently doing to influence students on campus?

TB: I use my involvement in several organizations to promote school spirit! I am always encouraging my fellow classmates to become involved in multiple organizations, but to also practice good study habits to maintain a high GPA.

HC: Why should you be chosen for Homecoming Queen?

TB: I feel as if I should be chosen for Homecoming Queen due to my amount of involvement and dedication at my time as a VSU student. From volunteering at visitation days, to helping recruit future football players, and always representing Valdosta State University in a positive manner, I have been as involved as possible to help better the future of VSU.

HC: If you were to be crowned Homecoming Queen, how would you use your title to impact our campus?

TB: If I were crowned Homecoming Queen, I would use my title to impact our campus by continuing to represent Valdosta State in a positive way. I would encourage other students to get involved, serve the university and the community, and to always be the best Blazer that they could be!

HC: What sets you apart from other candidates?

TB: I feel as if I am different than other candidates because I have always been a very involved student, and I strive to keep my academics as my priority. Involvement and service are also very important to me, because I recognize the importance of extracurriculars in post graduation life. I can’t wait to be an involved alumni of the best university in Georgia!

Voting begins Tuesday, November 10th on Campus Connect! HCXO!
