For some girls, makeup is a huge part of becoming a woman. For other girls, makeup holds little to no interest or value to them. But every girl faces judgement whether she wears makeup or not. Girls who wear makeup are seen as fake, vain, materialistic, and less of a person. Girls who don’t wear makeup are seen as less of a woman, and as trying too hard to be “one of the boys.”
A short piece of advice? Ignore those people. It is not their (or anyone else’s) place to say what makes you complete and worthy of respect. There are many reasons why someone may choose to wear or not wear makeup, all of which are completely okay.
For example, a girl may choose to wear makeup simply because it can be fun! Trying out different colors and shades on your face can be exciting, and experimentation teaches you a lot. Some other girls may turn makeup into an art form; some may wear it because they like how it makes them look—the possibilities are endless!
Some girls may wear makeup because they like to dress up for themselves, or for other people, or for boys. A girl may even wear makeup because they have scars or blemishes they prefer to cover up.
That is where the criticism and judgement tend to come in. But ignore those people; you are by no means fake if you use makeup to cover up parts of your face that you are insecure about. Do what makes you feel confident and comfortable! You are a full and complete person, no matter what some people may claim. Whatever your reasons are for wearing makeup, just do what makes you happy!
On the other hand, some girls simply dislike makeup—myself being one of them. That’s cool too! Your reason might be that you don’t feel comfortable wearing makeup, or you have a skin type that can’t handle makeup. You might even just be intimidated by figuring out makeup and trying it. Those are all okay. Whatever your reasons are, you are okay; you are no less of a woman for not wearing makeup.
There is no one reason you might choose to wear or not wear makeup. It is an entirely personal choice! Don’t allow someone to pressure you to go one way or another. It is your body, and this is your choice. You don’t even have to wear makeup all the time nor never wear makeup! You can change your mind based on how you’re feeling or the occasion. The freedom and power are completely yours. You define your own beauty and comfort. Whatever you choose for your body will not change your worth as a unique and powerful individual.
