Mr. and Miss International 2015 took Oklahoma State students on a journey across the globe as 11 contestants from 9 different countries showed us just what they were made of.
The scholarship pageant was organized by iSo, the International Student Organization at OSU. The contest was split into two phases, with Phase One showcasing the talent of the contestants and Phase Two consisting of the Q&A Round, where the hosts would ask each individual questions about themseves and their experience at OSU.
After a brief time of deliberation, the three guest judges announced a female and male runner up, then the female and male winners of the pageant. After an overwhelming crowd reaction of support, the hosts announced the winner of Mr. International 2015, Yuchen (Kevin) Gao!
Kevin, a 22 year old undergraduate student representing his home country of China and the Chinese Friendship Association, wowed the judges and audience with Clarinet playing in the talent section of the competition, including a heart warming rendition of “My Heart Will Go On”, the well known theme song from the Titanic.
Along with his musical talent, Kevin talked about the struggles he has overcome while studying in America.
“Language is very hard for me here,” Kevin said. “It is so important that people try to communicate everyday so that we can all try to understand each other, no matter where we are from.”
Kevin not only recieved the crown, but a $500 scholarship.
His wit, talent, and hilarious personality helped convince the crowd that he was the man to vote for.
“Someone has to win,” Kevin said. “So why not me?”
