The Perfect Hudson Valley Pinterest Board

We all love Pinterest. We pin dream vacations, hundreds of DIYs we hope to attempt, recipes we know we will never try, workout tips, inspirational quotes, and cool ways to decorate our drab dorms-but how many of us have Hudson Valley boards on our accounts? We go to school in a beautiful area with so much to experience with just a short drive from campus. This fall, I set out to create a Pinterest board where I could collect all of my dream day trips and Hudson Valley adventures.

My Hudson Valley Adventures board on Pinterest consists of four main categories: food, drink, what to see, what to do.

Food:

My board features typical Marist foodie staples such as Lola’s, Rossi’s, and the Culinary Institute of America in addition to restaurants I’ve passed by or ate at once before and want to remember for another day. I also post my own pins of places I’ve eaten at and enjoyed and then share them with friends. One of my most recent favorite foodie finds is the Liberty Public House in Rhinebeck. While I was there, I searched for it on Pinterest and pinned it to Hudson Valley Adventures for another day.

Drink:

Nothing goes better with food than drink and the Hudson Valley is home to many vineyards and breweries. For this I simply searched Hudson Valley Breweries and Vineyards and several pins popped up in front of me. Many people have the misconception that you can only go to a brewery or vineyard if you are 21 or older, but that is usually only for the tasting. Usually tours and demonstrations are open to all ages, but if you are planning to attend call ahead to reserve a spot. Visiting a vineyard or a brewery is a great half-day trip to take a break from homework or show your friends and family around the Hudson Valley. The Hudson Valley is also known for hosting craft beer and hard cider festivals, which are also fun weekend activities!

What To See:

As you know by now the Hudson Valley is filled with history. My Hudson Valley Adventures board is littered with historic sites that I have and have not yet visited: Val-Kill Cottage, the Vanderbilt Mansion, Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s Presidential Library, Springwood, and Washington’s Headquarters are just a few. You don’t have to like history to appreciate these sites, just wait until you see the size of Eleanor Roosevelt’s FBI file.

What To Do:

There are plenty of off campus activities to keep you busy in the Hudson Valley. We have the Historic Walkway Over the Hudson and the Poughkeepsie Rail Trail within walking distance from campus, but what else is there? Hiking. Hiking is one thing that you have to do even if it’s just once during your time at Marist. Minnewaska State Park Preserve and the Mohonk Preserve in New Paltz are two beautiful places to hike, but the Hudson Valley is full of trails so go out and find your own! This time of year the fall foliage makes hiking an even better experience, but the spring is also a great time to hike.

The Hudson Valley is also scattered with tons of cute towns and antique shops that are fun to walk around. Farmer’s Markets are happening almost every weekend in different towns throughout the Hudson Valley and just a short drive from campus. These are a great place to purchase locally grown produce, fresh baked goods, and local products like soaps and honey. They’re also super fun to walk through and see all of the different things people are selling, especially if it doubles as a craft fair.

Hopefully you’ve now been inspired to create your very own Hudson Valley Adventures board on Pinterest and get exploring! Feel free to follow by board at pinterest.com/pmoran920/hudson-valley-adventures and repin what you see featured in this article. Happy Pinning!
