I absolutely love DIYing, it’s probably one of my top hobbies. But unfortunately, Pinterest can make things seem easier than they actually are. Plus, some DIY’s cost some serious cash that I happen to be lacking. So, here’s a few ideas of DIY’s that pretty much anyone can do, and they’ll be a nice change in your room for next semester.

  1. Ribbon garland. This is suuuper simple and takes like 20 minutes tops. Like, all you do is tie knots. It’s great.

What you’ll need:

-twine

-scissors

-different colored/textured ribbon (more types = more variety)

-ruler

How to:

You want to measure how long you want the strand to be, this can just be a guestimate.

Then you’ll want to cut the ribbon, probably about 12” long. And use about three strands for each section.

Fold the strands in half and put it behind the twine, then create a loop and pull the bottom of the strands through the loop and create a knot every few inches or so (this is where the ruler comes in handy if you want an equal amount of space between each strand).

Continue doing this until you have run out of space, but leave a few inches on each end to tie a small hole in order to hang it up using command hooks or push-pins.

  1. Animal jewelry holder. I see these everywhere now, but I love the idea that I got to personalize my own for way cheaper! And it’s a great way to show off your love of animals & cute jewelry.

What you’ll need:

-small plastic animal

-terra cotta pot saucer (diameter of approx. 2”)

-paint color of your choice (either matte or metallic)

-brushes

-hot glue or super glue (don’t stick your fingers together or burn them! I did both while making mine L)

-felt of any color

How to:

First, you’ll want to paint both the saucer and your animal, probably about 2-3 coats will do the trick. And make sure you leave time for it to dry completely in between coats.

Use the saucer’s bottom as a guide to trace a circle out on the felt. You’ll want to put felt on the bottom to prevent scratches on surfaces from the saucer. Glue the felt to the bottom of the saucer.

Then, hot glue the animal to the saucer, let completely dry.

  1. Picture garland. Use some of that extra twine to make a trendy garland to hang up some cute pics of you and your friends. And the best part is, you can always change it up!

What you’ll need:

-twine

-scissors

-mini clothespins

-pictures (you can cut them into squares/smaller size)

Optional: If you want to paint your clothespins you can and then add glitter or rhinestones, etc. to make them fancy

How to:

Measure how long you want the twine to be, and make sure your pictures don’t overlap too much. And make sure the twine droops a little bit and that it’s not straight across the wall.

Then, you can hang it up on the wall using command hooks or push pins.

After that, you can just hang up the pictures with the clothespins, simple as that.

Hey! I'm Kaitlyn, currently a Sophomore Communications/Journalism major with an emphasis in Public Relations. I'm a member of Alpha Phi, one of the sororities on campus. I love music, makeup, fashion and DIYs. Thanks for checking out my work! :)
I'm Nicole! Nikki, Nic, anything you want to call me really. I'm from south-eastern Pennsylvania and I love life and beauty. Whenever I'm not writing or taking pictures for my blogs or social media accounts, you can find me (hopefully) at the beach surfing, traveling, making new friends and seeing new places. I'm in love with people I've never met and places I've never been to. I am currently a Senior (!!!) at Shippensburg University, majoring in Communications Journalism (focusing in Public Relations) and minoring in Psychology. I would love to work for a PR firm with advertising, event planning and perhaps a chance to travel. Thanks for reading!! - Nicole
