Recipe of the Week: Apricot and Soy Glazed Ham

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Exeter chapter.

Looking for a delicious and simple Christmas recipe? We have it sorted!

This recipe looks impressive and is deceptively simple to make. A baked ham is a wonderful Christmas tradition and the apricot and soy sauce glaze gives this one the edge. Preparation is minimal, meaning it is a great for when you are working. You can put the gammon on to boil and get started on your essay. Just set a timer and coincide putting the glaze on with a break and a cup of tea. It also means you have a really convenient lunch for the rest of the week as it will keep in the fridge for 7-10 days. Enjoy!

Ingredients:

  • Gammon Joint or Ham Joint
  • Apricot Jam- ¼ Jar
  • Soy Sauce- 1 tbsp.

Method:

  1. Place the gammon in a sauce pan and cover with cold water. Bring the water to the boil and simmer for 20 minutes per 1lb.
  2. Make the glaze by combining the apricot jam and soy sauce in a bowl.
  3. Place the gammon in an over-proof dish and pull off the layer of skin. With the skin removed, score the layer of fat underneath with a sharp knife. Cut diagonally in one direction then repeat in the opposite direction to create a diamond pattern.
  4. Spoon your glaze all over the gammon and place it in the oven for 20-30 minutes.
  5. Once it has cooked, remove and allow to cool. Slice as required.

We know what we are cooking this Sunday…
