Simply Regal: Anna’s Coronation Hair

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Cal Lutheran chapter.

Who’s ready for a ratchet tutorial on how to look like a princess? Honestly, I understand that my hair is greasy af, but I just got it colored and I’m avoiding washing it, so forgive the greasy hair– and the not so great photos. It’s hard to take photos of yourself #FirstWorldProblems. I also didn’t have any dry shampoo because I’m home for Thanksgiving…

Anywho, this is a tutorial for Anna’s coronation hair from Frozen. I’ve never seen Frozen but I can see the appeal in the hairstyle. The problem is that I don’t have lusciously animated hair like Anna, so I had to break the hairstyle down into a few basic components: hairline braids, a center bun, and a twist.

1.     Start with a side part and do a Dutch lace braid on each side of the part. Only incorporate hair from near the hairline. Then pin the braids out of the way.

2.     Separate a circular section of hair in the middle of your head. It should incorporate the hair near the braids but leave a good portion of the nape hairs loose. Pull the hair into a ponytail.

3.     Roll the hair around two fingers to form a bun shape and pin it into place.

4.     The final step is to collect that hair that’s left and combine it with the ends of the braids. Twist the hair and then wrap the twist around the bun! Simple as that! Just pin into place.

Honestly, I really like how this hair turned out, despite my inability to a) photograph, b) wash my hair. I think a messy bun like this is perfect to gather hair that’s greasy and needs to be washed. It makes you look polished…but seriously, dry shampoo would have made mine looked 10000% better. #fact

Enjoy being Princess Anna! I’m sure you’ll do better than I did!
