As finals week fast approaches, here are some tips to help you manage your time correctly.
1. DO NOT study in your dorm room.
I’ve personally found that if I study in my room, regardless of if I have my headphones in or not, I’m more likely to wander the halls and see what everyone else is up to during the time that I could be studying.
2. Set up a study schedule.
You can adjust it as you need to, but block off a good couple of hours to study for each of your exams.
3. Don’t be afraid to put your phone on airplane mode!
If your phone is on airplane mode, you won’t be getting notifications and you won’t be able to say “oh let me just go check (*insert social media platform here*).” Everything will be there when you’re done studying, but in all seriousness, the less distraction the better!
4. Ditto with your computer!
There are websites and applications that you can use to block social media and just about any other website you might use to procrastinate.
5. Give yourself breaks from studying.
No, not an hour long so you can go watch a full episode of a TV show on Netflix. Give yourself five or 10 minutes tops, take your phone off airplane mode, walk around a little bit, stretch your legs, check your social networks and then when that time limit is up, put your phone back on airplane mode and get right back to work!
6. Don’t be afraid to ask for help.
If you know one subject is going to be killer (for me, that’s math), ask for help from your professor, a tutor, a fellow classmate or a friend. If you’re genuinely confused on a topic that you need to know for your exam, you really won’t be using your time effectively by continuing on with something that you’re unsure about.
7. Lastly, prioritize.
If you know an exam is going to be open notebook, prepare yourself, but worry more about the closed-book cumulative exam! When grades come out, I promise you’ll thank yourself.
