Types of People at a Hockey Game

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UWindsor chapter.
  1. Drunks

These are the people that show up to the game just for a night out drinking with their friends.  They get together, get the cheapest nose-bleed tickets available, and attend the game to drink.  Usually, they are there to cheer on their team, but it turns quickly into drunkenly discussing stats and drinking competitions  .  It is also typical for this group to find another group of friends near them and become friends for the length of the game) over tallboys.

  1. Businessmen

These people are a typical find at the Air Canada Centre (ACC) in Toronto.  Although this fan can be found at any arena, they are most famous at the ACC.  The common joke is that there are more suits in the stands than there are jerseys at the ACC.  These are the fans that go with their company tickets to make business deals.  A company will typically invite people that they are trying to make deals with.  They are not necessarily there to cheer on the team; it is just for the environment of a hockey game.

  1. Girlfriends on a date

These are the girls that are at the game solely because the boy they are currently seeing is into hockey, so naturally they are too.  Do they know what is happening on the ice? Or even what sport they are watching? Unlikely.

  1. The people in random jerseys

You’re at an Anaheim Ducks vs. Detroit Red Wings game and there is a guy in the front row in a Boston Bruins jersey.  Does he know where he is? Probably not.  He is just there for the experience.

  1. Puck Bunnies

These are the girls who show up to the games with the goal of sleeping with the players.  They are the groupies of the hockey world.

  1. Die hard fans

These are the people that live and breathe their team.  If their team is playing, they are either in the stands or glued to the TV watching the game.  This is their passion and they will start an argument on the street with people if they diss their team.  They are ready to drop the mitts to defend their team.

I am currently in my 4th year of Sport Management and a major whiskey enthusiast.  Not necessarily in that order.
