Everyone dreams about the day they finally turn 21. If you’re anything like me, you’ve had your 21st birthday planned out for years. Turning 21 is the equivalent of winning the lottery for most people. You’re officially an adult and live by no rules! (okay, maybe some rules.) Actually being 21 though is a lot different than what you imagined in your head. Here’s what finally being 21 is like:Â
Feeling like the coolest person ever when you get your first legal drink.
You get ridiculously nervous showing someone your ID.
What if they don’t think I’m 21 and call the cops and I go to jail even though I really am 21? Oh gosh this is torture, I should have never come here, just give my back my ID and let me leave!

You can now legally go out to bars with your girlfriends, but you end up drinking wine in your pajamas all night.
Because it’s not drinking alone if the cat’s home, right?
When you’re out having a good time and the bill comes.
RIP to your bank account.
Free alcohol for all your friends!
Only because you need an excuse to buy more alcohol.
When you get your new ID in the mail and the picture is worse than before.
Then you realize you look the same as you did when you were sixteen.
Forever having a babyface.
Going to bars on the weekend and it’s so crowded you can’t even reach the bartender.
You spend more money on cocktails at dinner than on your actual food.
You’ve got to have your priorities straight after all.
Going to the liquor store is like entering an adult version of Candyland. Everything looks so pretty and delicious.
So naturally you spend your entire weekly allowance getting stuff even though your fridge is already full.
Going to class after a night out drinking:
You’ve been waiting for this day for years and have dreamed about how great life will finally be. In reality, not much has changed and you spend most of your Friday nights sitting at home like a granny drinking wine and watching Netflix.Â
Living the life.
