If you have ever seen a girl do something embarrassing with makeup and eye glasses, it was probably me. I did it. But, because I’ve had a lot of practice messing up, I sort of have this whole thing figured out now. Here is my makeup routine for my glasses days. It takes less than eight minutes (that is, when you aren’t taking pictures of the entire thing).

Prep: Moisturizer

-You live in Chicago. This is non-glasses wearers exclusive. You need to be taking care of your skin unless you want to be confused with your mother in ten years.

Moisturize as soon as you hop out of the shower because it’s going to need some time to soak into your skin and actually do some good! I normally pick out my outfit and put on my jewelry during this time.

Step One: Eyebrows

This is mainly for girls with lighter hair because if your brows aren’t naturally big, bold, and beautiful your frames can consume them. I’m a vibrant gal so, yes, my frames are pretty bright, but this is a common problem. Above, you’ll see one of the shades I turn my eyebrows. Like most fair skinned girls, your eyebrows should be lighter than your soul, but darker than your hair. I’m pretty low key about my eyebrows, I just fill them in and spooli them out before adding a highlight. If you’ve ever seen someone doing their eyebrows on the El platform, that was probably me.

Step Two: Eye Lashes

I get it, not everyone likes to wear a full face of makeup everyday. If that’s you, just do your eyebrows and curl your lashes (once up at the base, once in half-way up). You’ll be able to call it a day and curling your lashes makes all the difference. If you’ve worn glasses for years, you might not even realize when your lashes are rubbing against the glass and when they aren’t. You’re less likely to get a headache if they aren’t. After these two steps, you’ll look a little something like this:

I look awake and like I did all the readings and did all the studying, right?

Step Three: Basics

When you are a glasses wearer, you’re literally put in a box, as in you have this box to fit all your makeup into. If you wear foundation every day AKA not me, you should follow through step three at least, not step two, before hustling to Arts and Letters. If you don’t you’ll be fine, if you do, you’ll look like you have a full face of makeup and you’ve only been doing makeup for five minutes. I would put one coat of mascara on your freshly curled lashes, swipe a brown that compliments your eyeshade/skin tone, put on a second coat of mascara and hope you make the first elevator!

I got up on time this morning! Take that week 4.

Step Four: Defining the Eye

One of the biggest challenges against glasses, specifically in photographs, is that your eyes will either look like one note or will look a mile back in your skull depending on the frame. Because of this, it’s best to rock a soft cut crease. For reference to the palette above, I used Tawny all over, Burlap in the entire crease, and a combination of Cabernet and Cinnamon in the outer corner. However, what will work best for you will depend on your eye shape! For example, I have close set almond eyes so this will work best for similar shapes.

Step Five: Getting Fancy

I ain’t no Kim K, but I also skipped two of my blogilates videos last night because #icant. So, contouring picked up some slack. I have the less popular and less adored Irish nose that I have to hide on a regular basis. I won’t bore you with contour as I know very little about it, but make sure to leave a gap at the bridge of your nose or your glasses will be sliding all day!

Okay, you can go to class now. Don’t let your bagel burn and get lots of knowledge.
