Zayn Malik Releases First Solo Single

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at American chapter.

On January 28, Zayn Malik relesaed his first solo single since leaving One Direction in March of 2015. “Pillowtalk” came out before midnight on Thursday, when it was scheduled to be released, and has already shot up to number 1 on iTunes charts, ahead of Rihanna and Drake’s collaboration, “Work”, as well as Justin Bieber’s “Love Yourself”.

The single is impossibly catchy while leaving behind the popular boy band style of One Direction. It shifts toward an R&B feel reminiscient of Bieber’s Purpose, says Entertainment Weekly.

As if releasing a new single wasn’t enough to send Malik’s fans into a frenzy, he has also released his debut music video for “Pillowtalk.” The video features Zayn with his new girlfriend, 20-year-old Victoria’s Secret model Gigi Hadid

Malik told the magazine that it has been a refreshing experience creating an album on his own, as opposed to working to satisfy four other artists in addition to himself.

After releasing four albums with One Direction, Malik’s first solo album, Mind of Mine is due to come out in March, boasting just under 20 tracks.

Although fans are still mourning the end of One Direction and of course Zayn’s depatrure from the X-Factor boyband, they are still ecstatic to see Zayn still making great music, even if it is solo.

What can we say, we’re getting pretty excited for March.
