Almost February. Still looking for internships for summer, working on a resume and cover letters? Here’s some tips for your internship search, resume and cover letter.
 
How to get an Internship?If you need to find an internship your own, here’s some tips.
Please take advantage of college career development center. They have a tremendous amount of sources of jobs, internships and more opportunities for you. 
Linked In is also an excellent source. It’s a good method to connect with alums who experienced or currently working your dream career field. And don’t hesitate to ask questions or help! They will be happy to help you.
 
Resume tips – DOs & DON’Ts 
  • Do state ways to contact you such as email address, phone numbers or other contact information. 
  • Do list your experience in reverse chronological order. 
  • Do proofread your resume. Misspellings and typos can be a negative point on a resume. 
  • Do consider to make your resume on a page-Since recruiters or managers of your internship/job might have limited attention spans or your resume, it is ideal to make a one-page resume.
  • Don’t lie on your resume. You don’t have to try to make yourself into something you are not. 
  • Don’t make things too complicated– Instead of explaining your work in a complex and fancy way, it is better to list your achievements and experience by bullets with your experience title and position. 
  • Don’t use personal pronouns such as I, my, me in your resume. 
Cover Letter Tips? DOs & DON’Ts
  • Do state how you can meet employer’s needs and contribute to the firm.  
  • Do write a cover letter that is specific to you.– Focus on answering the question “Why should I hire you?”
  • Do keep your cover letter no more than a page.
  • Do use simple language and clear sentence structure. – Delete unnecessary words and sentences. 
  • Don’t be negative in your cover letter.
  • Don’t reuse your resume.
  • Don’t forget to sign the letter.– Tip! Blue ink is preferable.
