Name: Erin Conway

Major: Journalism and Political Science

Hometown: Alexandria, VA

HCIC: How long have you been on the Renegades?

Erin: Since my freshman year, so this is my second fall season.

HCIC: How’s that experience been overall?

Erin: It’s been amazing. I’ve found sisters for life, it’s a wonderful team to be a part of.

HCIC: When did you start rugby?

Erin: Since my sophomore year of high school. I played soccer for a very long time then in high school I didn’t want to go out for the soccer team, so one of my friends told me to try rugby and I did and loved it.

HCIC: What’s your favorite part about rugby?

Erin: The relationships we have with other teams are not like what you’ll find with any other sport because even though we’re against a team when we’re on the pitch, we’re all close friends otherwise and it’s a wonderful experience.

HCIC: What’s your favorite part of being on the Renegades specifically?

Erin: I think the team diversity; everyone is so unique and fits perfectly with the team. Everyone works well together and gets along, which makes it a wonderful experience.

HCIC: How did the team do last semester?

Erin: AMAZING.

HCIC: Have the Renegades always been this good?

Erin: Last season we had a wonderful season as well, and the season before that we did really well. We’ve never done this well but I think every year the Renegades get progressively better. I think the talent we have in each recruit; everyone is so good at a few different positions that everyone contributes and helps make the team great. I think the coach we have now is really great. The coach we had last year was really wonderful and lead us in a very good way. The captains I have experienced have always been great leaders. The whole team dynamic has been really great.

HCIC: What do you do in your free time?

Erin: I’m an assistant producer on the Grid Iron Report, I write for The Odyssey online, I like to eat, and I just chill with my friends.

HCIC: Do you see yourself continuing rugby?

Erin: Yes, I will continue throughout the rest of college as well as play back home in the summer.

HCIC: Can you see yourself playing rugby after college?

Erin: Depends on my career I suppose. I would definitely love to continue this sport but I’m not sure how realistic that is.

HCIC: Any advice for someone wanting to join rugby?

Erin: Definitely don’t be afraid. Everyone says that rugby is very violent but that’s not true. Rugby is a great sport for anyone to do, and I strongly suggest playing if you ever get the chance.
