What To Do on Valentine’s Day in Exeter

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Exeter chapter.

Valentine’s Day has come around once more, and yet again, you don’t know what to do. Is he organising something? Should you wait and be surprised, or risk disappointment? Well how about this year, you surprise him with a Valentine’s Day plan? Keeping it local and cheap, here are a few ideas for your upcoming romantic day out.

1. Dartmoor

Grab a map, some solid shoes and your boyfriend’s hand and get ready for a day of just you two. I mean it – you probably won’t get any signal, so it’s the perfect place to keep each other company without any distractions at all.

2. Cycle along the Quay

If you’re brave enough, cycle all the way to Exmouth and stop off at a pub in Topsham on the way. (Make sure to reserve a table in advance.)

HCX TIP – Take the train back from Exmouth if 11 miles is far enough for you!

3. Hire a Kayak or a Paddle Board

OK so we might not be in Hawaii, but what better way to spend Valentine’s Day than fooling around on the water. Head to AS Watersports and hire them here

HCX TIP – Hire a double Kayak for extra romance points!

4. Scavenger Hunt across Exeter

This requires a bit of preparation, but create a trail by using romantic riddles that leads you to your days events – make him work for it!

5. Romantic Picnic

Head to the Cathedral Green with your own picnic and a bottle of wine. Bring a few blankets – it’ll be cold!

6. Exmouth

If the Cathedral’s not your sort of thing, then head to Exmouth for a romantic stroll on the beach. If you get your timing right and the weather has worked out, you might catch a beautiful Valentine’s Day Sunset.

HCX TIP: For you proactive couples, you could even try the sunrise!

7. Brewery Tour

With Otter Brewery, Spencer Devon Brewery, Dartmoor Brewery, and Bays Brewery to name a few, Devon is absolutely bursting with breweries. Why not organise a tour of his favourite one, or maybe even let him taste a new one?!
