Molly Dean: Army ROTC

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at TCU chapter.

Meet Molly! If you ever have the delightful chance to talk to her during your stay at TCU, you will definitely remember her bubbly, outgoing, and fun-loving personality! She has already taken on so much with being an active member of her sorority and an aspiring nursing major, but on top of that, she recently joined the ROTC this semester! Molly’s happiness and kindness is contagious, and she is really excited to spend her next 3½ years with her fellow frogs at TCU!

Name: Molly Dean

Year: Freshman

Major: Nursing

Hometown: Seabrook, TX

Relationship Status: Single

Campus Involvement: Kappa Kappa Gamma, ROTC, Connections, TCU Ignite

Q. What is your favorite thing about TCU?

A. “My favorite thing about TCU is just the community’s atmosphere, and the friends I’ve made. In high school, I had a large quantity of friends and in college yes there is quantity, but I’m finding much more quality in a few.

Q. What do you do in your spare time?

A. “What spare time? But really, I enjoy being involved in TCU’s religious community. I go to Paradox church in Downtown Fort Worth and am in their bible study, I participate in Ignite, Kappa Kappa Gamma bible study, and Stumo late night. Recently I just joined the ROTC because I want to go into the army for nursing, so my 5 am workouts dominate my morning (and afternoon because of the naps). When I’m not studying for anatomy or doing anything else, I like to watch The Bachelor and Psych, hammock, and you can probably catch me eating cereal at the BLUU.”

Q. What is something not many people know about you?

A. “One thing people don’t know about me is that I can flick any small item of food off my foot into my mouth. I played varsity soccer all four years in high school, and that trick is honestly the best thing that came out of it!”

Q. This semester you joined the ROTC; what are your plans for the future?

A. “When I told my friends I joined the ROTC, half of them thought I was joking and the other half were worried I was having a mid-life crisis. But recently I’ve heard a strong calling to go into the Army to be a nurse and help those who really are in desperate need for aid. It has always been my dream to be a nurse, and getting into TCU’s nursing program was one of the happiest days of my life. I joined the ROTC this semester to be able to get scholarship for enlisting, and although it’s only my second week I have already made some great friends—even some other nursing majors! I haven’t signed on or made any definite commitments, but my plan is to serve for 4 years overseas and after that move to Houston where I would work in the medical center and be an ER or oncology nurse.”

Q. If you could have dinner with any celebrity, who would you pick?

A. “I would pick my favorite musician, Ben Rector. I’ve recently become a fan but I cannot stop listening to him. I’m going to see him in March and maybe then I’ll snag a dinner date. But I would settle for a head nod.”

Just a (sort of) small town girl now living in a college world. Hobbies include petting stranger's dogs, eating popcorn by the fistful, and still trying to make fetch happen.
