1. Curling Wand

Description:

The curling wand is the perfect styling tool to curl your hair that is guaranteed to not leave any kinks or weird bumps in the hair. They’re no bothersome clamps and it’s easy to simply wrap the hair around the barrel. Interestingly enough, because there is no clamp like a traditional curling iron, it’s actually less damaging and puts less stress on the hair. The wand also allows for more freedom to create your desired curls.

Heat Time:

The curling wand heats up very quickly, and most have a light or some indicator that the wand is heated up to your desired temperature. Depending on the wand, some heat up in as little as 30 seconds.

Protection:

Since you have to hold the hair very close to the hot barrel, it is always recommended to wear a heat protective glove to avoid any burns or other injuries.

Size and Metal Barrel Types:

Curling wands can vary in sizes, from the smallest being about a 3/8th inch to about 2 inches. The barrels come in different metals such as tourmaline, ceramic, and titanium.

Barrel Types:

On a traditional curling wand, you’ll most likely find a barrel that is the same length from the tip to the bottom of the barrel. Depending on your style and your desired style of curls, different barrels can help create those different curls. There are tapered barrels, which is larger on the end closest to the handle and gets smaller towards the tip of the barrel, or even what’s called a bubble wand, where it looks like a series of “bubbles” that help to create interesting texture and curls to the hair.

2. Hot Rollers

Description:

Although the sound of hot rollers sounds vintage or perhaps something your mother or maybe even your grandmother used, they are still a hot hit today! Some rollers come with velvet wrapped curlers with negative ions. Negative Ion Technology emits atoms that can stop the growth of bacteria resulting in healthier hair and scalp. Negative ion energy allows smaller water molecules to penetrate into the hair shaft and close the hair cuticle, which is very good for the health and appearance of the hair. After the rollers are heated up, take one roller and start at the end of the hair and begin to wrap the hair up around the roller towards the scalp, and clip in place with either a metal or thermal clip. After the clips, rollers, and hair is all cooled, simply remove them and voila! Hot rollers are great for those who don’t like using curling irons or wands and are great for on the go!

Heat Time:

Heat-up time varies from size to brand, but most hot rollers have some sort of light or indicator to tell when the rollers are done heating up. If there is no indicator, or you simply aren’t sure, a good general rule of thumb is to wait about 20 minutes but no longer than 45 minutes. Besides, who wants to wait that long for gorgeous curls? Usually, the rollers will specify the heating time, and newer models will heat up in under 5 minutes.

Protection:

Unlike a curling wand or iron, hot rollers have no large handle to protect your hands from burns. If you are a beginner with hot rollers or feel unsafe applying them, it is recommended to use a heat protecting glove. To ensure safety to customers, there is a ring on both sides to hold onto instead of the hot part of the roller as you wrap the hair.

Size and Metal Roller Types:

Similarly to curling irons or wands, hot rollers generally come in small, medium, large, and jumbo sizes. Depending on what brand or size you buy, curls will generally range from about a half inch to two inches. When shopping for hot rollers, you’ll most often find ceramic rollers. Some of the cheaper hot rollers that are plastic do not have a velvet strip on them to hold the hair easier, which can cause the hair to slip from the hot roller.

3. Curling Iron

Description:

Another traditional way of curling hair is using a curling iron with a clamp. The curling iron is one of the safest ways to curl your hair since the clip or clamp will hold the hair instead of risking burning your hand. The clamp makes curling hair effortless and easy.

Heat Time:

Like a curling wand, the curling iron heats up very quickly as well. Most curling irons will have a light or an indicator to tell when it’s ready to use. Most curling irons will heat up in less than a minute.

Protection:

Although you don’t need your hand to hold the hair unlike a curling wand, it is recommended to use a heat protecting glove if you are a beginner or feel unsafe using the curling iron.

Size and Metal Barrel Types:

Curling irons come in various sizes ranging from a 3/8th inch to two inches. Barrels come in different metals such as ceramic, titanium, and tourmaline.

Go ahead, impress your friends, and learn different curling tools! Curling hair has never been easier.
