10 phrases to use instead of Netflix & Chill

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at OR State chapter.

We’ve all heard about or gotten the infamous “Netflix and Chill?” text. To be honest it’s getting a little bit old. No matter how many new phrases come and go, this one seems to still be sticking around. If you’re looking for alternative phrases to entice your Valentine or Galentine to your humble abode this year, read on!

1. Hulu & Hang?

If you and your sweetie want to catch up on some Mindy Project and see where it leads, then this sly line is for you.

2. Takeout & Makeout?

If your girl loves takeout food and acting like one of the boys, try this line out. She’ll appreciate your straight-to-the-point approach and is never one to turn down free food.

3. HBO Go & Merlot?

If the object of your affections is of a fancier breeding, then think about getting the HBO Go password from your roommate, pouring some merlot, setting out some candles, and really setting the mood.

4. Buzzfeed & Proceed?

If your significant other is a sucker for quizzes, puppy videos, random listicles, and breaking news, then invite them over for a night of scrolling through Buzzfeed. They probably would be doing that anyway at home, but this way you can grab some alone time with them while your roommate is off studying at the library.

5. Netflix & Nap?

For the person who actually just wants a lazy night in with their long time significant other, this one couldn’t be more perfect. This is for the extreme binge-watchers who have no time to take their eyes off the screen unless it’s for a quick kiss. Then, after watching a season in a night, you’ll honestly probably just pass out.

6. Amazon Prime & Bedtime?

If you and your bae are shopaholics with an Amazon Prime account, why not spend the night planning your future purchases together, watching some tv shows, and just seeing where the night takes you?

7. Study & Get Cuddly?

If you have your eyes on a cutie in your Biology class, why not take your relationship out of the classroom? Invite them over for a study session, make some subtle flirty eye contact, and just wait for them to swoon.

8. Free Form & Dorm?

If you and your girl have been watching Pretty Little Liars since the beginning, why not invite her over for a marathon to revisit the pairings of the past you are missing. Let’s be honest; you just can’t accept that Hanna and Caleb aren’t an item anymore, but their steamy moments in the past may spark something in the future between the two of you.

9. MTV & Are you Free?

Teen Wolf, Faking It, Awkward, Finding Carter, and Are you the One? to name a few are all some particularly interesting shows on the channel with constantly changing ships that their fanbases can’t get enough of. If you haven’t watched one of these shows yet, why not invite your Valentine over to binge watch one of them, cuddle up on the couch, and see if there’s a love connection?

10. Investigation Discovery & Shivery?

If you and your boyfriend are into the spooky, scary, and downright frightening, then you should check out the Investigation Discovery channel. After finishing Making a Murderer you basically think you can solve any crime, so you and your boy or girlfriend can try to solve these cases together. When the real scary parts come on, just take a chance and snuggle closer to them and kiss their fears away.

If she's not in class, at a club meeting, chapter, or writing, she's probably spending time with her family, friends, walking her dogs, eating junk food, or watching too many crime, comedy, or fashion shows on Netflix. She likes cheese, dogs, creative projects, obnoxious animal prints, garage sales, farmer's markets, and generally just being silly.
