Taking the perfect selfie is harder than it looks. In most cases we end up with a camera role full of failed attempts and only one “insta-worthy” selfie to work with. Luckily, HCBU is here to make sure you never end up with a bad selfie again!
1. Natural lighting is your new best friend
The single most important rule when taking a selfie is to use natural lighting. Artificial lighting can make you look yellow or gray and accentuate the shadows under your eyes. Taking a picture in front of a window or outside will illuminate your face with a gorgeous white light.
2. Know your angles
Don’t like how your selfies look from straight on? Try tilting your face and experimenting with various angles until you find what you like best.
3. Get your hand as far away from your face as possible
The farther you get, the better your selfie will turn out. If you’re too close, it could make your face appear flat.
4. Use a simple background
If your background is too distracting it’ll take attention away from your face.
5. Wear highlighter
You’ll instantly illuminate your face and allow the camera to pick up on your gorgeous cheekbones!
6. Hold the camera from above
Holding the camera slightly above your face will eliminate any trace of a double chin and bring out your most flattering angles.
7. For the extremely dedicated: snag a selfie light iPhone case
You’ll be able to get professional photo shoot lighting thanks to this amazing invention (courtesy of Beyoncé’s makeup artist).
