Single or Taken: 6 Last Minute Plans For Valentine’s Day

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at LUC chapter.

Valentine’s Day is literally tomorrow, and you’re either dreading it or really excited. For those of you who are dreading it, don’t. I’m just going to clear the air now and remind you that Valentine’s Day is NOT a day for only couples to celebrate. Valentine’s Day is all about the love you have for your loved ones and spending the day to appreciate the amount of joy, love, and, happiness they bring to your life. With that said, whether you’re single or taken, here are 7 last minute plans you and your loved ones could do this V-Day!

1. Visit The Van Gogh Bedroom Collection at The Art Institute

If you’re an art junkie like me, then visiting the Art Institute is the place to be, especially this Valentine’s Day because there’s a new exhibit! For the first time in North America, the Vincent Van Gogh Bedroom Collection will be displayed for all to admire at the Art Institute of Chicago. Did I also mention that if you show your Loyola ID, admission is free? Yup, you read that right. Free! You literally get to stare at one of the greatest pieces of artwork for however many hours you’d like, for free! It’s every broke college student’s dream, am I right?

2. Go Zip Lining

Whether you’re spending this special day with Bae or a loved one, you’ve got to go and zip line through Millennium Park! Experience Kissimmee, a Florida tourism company, is coming to Chicago this weekend to advertise their company and get Chicagoans to visit the great state of Florida, Kissimmee to be exact. So what better way to advertise their company than putting a 200-foot zip line right through the heart of the city that you can ride for free (yes, free)? Now I know what you’re thinking: yes, it may be below freezing temperatures outside, but come on! Wouldn’t you want to tell your grandkids some day that you zip lined through Millennium Park?

Note: If you are interested in zip lining, you must sign a waiver and the company location will be stationed at 201 East Randolph Street.

3. Watch How To Be Single

Have a chill day and just catch a movie this Valentine’s Day! How To Be Single is a hilarious comedy where a college grad named Alice, played by Dakota Johnson, recently breaks up with her long-term boyfriend and moves to the great city of New York. Alice adjusts to the city life and meets one of her co-workers, Robin, played by Rebel Wilson, who teaches Alice how to be single.

4. Go Ice Skating

If you haven’t visited the Maggie Daley Skating Ribbon yet, this weekend is the time to go! It may be cold, the lines may be long, and there may be a lot of proposals on the ice, but it’s all worth it in the end when you’re having a blast skating around with your loved ones! Click here (http://maggiedaleypark.com/things-to-do-see/skating-ribbon/) for more information on the hours, rentals, and much more!

5. Attend A Bar Crawl (21+)

If you’re 21 or older, there are a couple of bar crawls happening this weekend that you may be interested in! The Lovers or Haters Bar Crawl and the Screw Cupid Bar Crawl are TODAY, Saturday, February 13. Attending a bar crawl on Valentine’s Day is a good time for everyone because it’s an activity where you can hang out with your bae and friends at the same time! Or if you’re single, there’s obviously other singles that you can meet! Who knows, Cupid may be lurking around and strike you with that arrow. If you’re interested in the Lovers or Haters Bar Crawl, click here for more information! If you’re interested in the Screw Cupid Bar Crawl, click here for more information! And by all means, you can attend both if you’d like; they’re at different times!

But, what really makes up the essence of Valentine’s Day are the endless amounts of chocolates, cookies, cakes, and other yummy but oh so cavity-prone treats. But hey, it’s Valentine’s Day: treat yo’self! This V-Day, you’ve got to treat yourself to some delicious goodies from Sweet Mandy B’s in Lincoln Park.
