It’s Okay to be Single on Valentine’s Day

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at New Haven chapter.

Okay, so you don’t have a date on Valentine’s Day.  Your Instagram feed is about to be flooded by lovey-dovey couples posting about how much they love each other even though you firmly believe they’re going to break up any second. I would know, I’ve been going through the same thing as “that single friend” every Valentine’s Day for the last five years (it’s kind of a miracle that I even know what a relationship is). But anyway, you can easily bash the holiday and everyone that celebrates it…

OR

You can embrace it by simply doing the following:

Buy yourself those chocolates. Why on EARTH would you need to feel validated as a person by having a significant other spoil you with gifts and chocolates, when you could just do that for yourself and still feel just as good?  I find that there is no one that can spoil you better than yourself!

Remember how much money you’re saving on not buying a gift for someone else. One of the biggest benefits of being a single lady is knowing that you don’t feel the need to spend your life savings on a special gift for a guy!  Anytime I’m with a guy, I always think about the best things I can get to surprise him and make him super happy (and that always comes with a hefty price).  My wallet couldn’t be happier that I’m not scrambling to get a guy that fancy watch, or that amazing smelling cologne!

Work a little harder at the gym. There really is no better way to spend “the day of love” than making yourself look and feel even better (yes, soreness really is key if you want to make that booty pop to the other single men).

And of course, the BIGGEST tip of all…

Love Yourself. And I don’t mean it the way that Justin Bieber sang it. As long as you know how lovely you are, you will never need anyone else to make you feel as such!! Valentine’s Day may be a piercing reminder that you have not yet found someone to call your own, but all of you single ladies really should know that it’s going to be okay. You don’t need a significant other in your life to remind you about how great you truly are.

Happy Single Awareness Day everyone!!

Hi! My name is Taylor and I am a Business Management major with a double minor in Marketing and Psychology. I'm originally from Brooklyn but then moved to East Meadow, NY, on Long Island. I am the President of the American Marketing Association on campus and I was an intern and then worked my way up to retail operations for the NY Islanders Hockey Club before their big move to Brooklyn. A fun fact about me would be that I used to run track and cross country throughout all of high school and I've completed a half marathon in approximately 1 hour and 42 minutes!
