We are well into second semester, and if you’re in your senior year, the million dollar question is: “What are you doing after graduation?” Chances are you have applied to jobs, internships, or some sort of second degree, whether it is to attend a law, medical, or graduate school. If one of these is the case, then it is highly likely you will need to put your best foot forward during an interview or two. Prepare yourself by practicing your answers to some of the following questions.
1. Why should we consider you for this position?
Give this some thought, and don’t just repeat the top attributes on your resume. Describe your values, and make yourself stand out.
2. What made you consider our program and this position?
Make sure you have researched the company or university, including their key values and mission statements. Reiterate that these ideas are in line with your own values and elaborate.
3. What are some of your goals during this program?
Take this opportunity to separate your short term and long term goals, rather than ruminating on just one.
4. What was one point in your life that you faced a challenge, and how did you solve it?
This will truly show the extent of your preparation for the interview. Pick a specific point in your life beforehand that will leave your interviewer remembering your unique story.
5. Do you have any questions for me?
This is one of the hardest questions, and one that interviewees often forget about. Make sure you come prepared with 2-3 questions to keep the interviewer talking, while showing your interest and personable traits.
