Graduating Golden Hawks: A Guide to Your Final Semester

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Wilfrid Laurier chapter.

Have you been dealing with a bad case of senioritis? Those 4th (or 5th) year feels might be hitting you hard as you realize the end of uni life is quickly approaching! Don’t worry, Her Campus has you covered and will help you get through the home stretch of your final semester with ease. You’re one step closer to adulting in the real world, which can be both exhilarating and terrifying! Before the term is up, make sure you cross off these experiences from your Laurier bucket list and enjoy every last moment in Waterloo!

Actually Go to Class

At this point, you might be completely over school and in a relationship with your bed (personally very guilty). Although you’re dreading the daily trek to campus in chilly winter weather, remember that this is the last few months you’ll be dealing with the stressors of school. You’re so close to freedom, so keep at it!

Study at a Local Coffee Shop

My favourite places to study are cafes in Uptown Waterloo, where the atmosphere is invigorating and the coffee is strong. Check out Settlement Co. for a refreshing vibe or The Princess Cafe which has fair-trade, organic coffee (large for $2.50). You can also find an organic and vegan menu at Cafe Pyrus in downtown Kitchener. Plan a study date with a friend at DVLB and motivate each other to stay focused.

Visit the St. Jacob’s Farmers’ Market

If you’re looking for some fresh veg or a plethora of sweets and knick knacks, you’ll adore the Farmers’ Market located in St. Jacob’s. They’re open on Thursdays and Saturdays, and you can get some cheap deals if you arrive an hour or so before they close.

Explore Old Goat Books

Get lost amongst the wooden shelves of this hidden gem in Uptown Waterloo. Old Goat Books sells quality used books in a variety of genres.

Enjoy Sweet Treats at Honey Bake Shop

This local bake shop will deeply satisfy your cravings of decadent cupcakes and macarons!

Phil’s Sleeve

Pick a week where you have minimal midterms to study for and go to Phil’s… every single night it’s open!

Eat Good & Feel Good

When you’re desperate for drunk food after Phil’s, pizza is always the solution. You might be feeling weak and greasy after a night of questionable decisions, so spend the next day recovering. Detoxify your body and fill it with healthy foods and a fresh fruit smoothie. Visit Thrive Energy Lab, Rawlicious, or Freshii and enjoy the extra energy you acquire from eating more veggies.

Plan a Summer Trip

Traveling is one of the most meaningful experiences you can have, and why not take every opportunity to see the world while you’re young? You deserve to nourish your soul by going somewhere new and thriving in a different environment. If your bank account allows it, plan your dream vacay of backpacking Europe or laying on the beach in Thailand. Then start counting down the days because summer is right around the corner!

Take Risks & Shamelessly Network

Take every chance to be bold and spontaneous this semester. Don’t be afraid to approach that cutie you’ve been eyeing, and genuinely get to know new people that you meet. The connections that you make throughout university can be an advantage in your career, and networking now will offer additional opportunities later on. It’s time to start thinking about the type of career you want to pursue and embark on the quest for a fulfilling job.

Although this might be your final semester in Waterloo, embrace every last moment of your Laurier experience and STAY GOLDEN, my friends! Here’s to the Class of 2016!

Wilfrid Laurier

You will typically see me with a large cup of tea and browsing social media under the fairy lights and reading up on my favourite lady bosses (Mindy Kaling let me be you please). Also my trivia regarding superheroes is endless. I have more music than time to listen to and someone definitely should consider taking away my blogging privileges. My love for pop culture is limitless and Netflix is the true MVP in my opinion. Contributor writer for HerCampus Laurier Stalk me and let's be friends here: Insta & Twitter: webofem
