Stop what you are doing. Right now. When’s the last time you talked to your family members? And no, I’m not just talking about your parents–although you should be communicating with them as well. You’re a busy college student, and between classes, work, internships, and extra curricula’s you’re exhausted by the end of the day. I get it. However, that does not excuse you from not reaching out to your family members. Your family is and always will be the best support system you will ever have. Not to mention they are extremely proud of how hard you are working in college! Make sure you show them how thankful you are for their support and guidance. Here are five ways to show your family members just how much you love them.
1. Send them a text.
C’mon, I know you constantly have your phone on you and sending a text takes just a few seconds. Use that phone of yours and send a cute text to a person in your family that you have not talked to in a while. I promise saying something as simple as “I love you” or “How are you?” can make their day and make them feel appreciated!
2. Give them a phone call.
Sometimes it’s nice to actually hear the person. Calling your parents and even your grandparents and letting them hear your voice and know that you’re okay is a good way to show them you care. You can tell a lot about a person based off of tone, giving them the chance to hear how happy you are or what you’re struggling with helps them feel more included in your life! If you want to take it a step up, consider Skyping them. I’m sure they will be beyond happy to actually get to see your face!
3. Write them a letter.
Yeah, you heard me. Write them an actual letter and mail it to them. Write about all the amazing experiences you are gaining throughout college and even about that cute boy in your math class that you never get enough courage to talk to. Just getting a letter from you will make them feel loved because it’s something physical they can hold on to!
4. Â Send LOTS of pictures.
Your family loves knowing what you are doing and sending them pictures is the perfect way to keep them updated. Send the pictures of you at the basketball game with friends, dinner with the roommates, and even some of your famous selfies. Sending them throughout the week gives a great recap of what you did that week and what you’ve been experiencing!
5. Â Go home for a visit.
Surprise your family and go home for a weekend. Yes, it might take more effort than the other options but it will definitely be worth it when you see the look on your family members faces! Spending quality time in person with your loved ones is a great way to show just how much you care.
Always remember to take a few moments to reach out to your family. They care about you more than you’ll ever know. Life gets busy but people also get older so take the opportunity to tell your family you love them while you still have the chance.Â
