Brunch is the hallelujah to our hung-over prayers. But when your brain isn’t fully functioning after a few too many, it’s sometimes better to have a guide to advise you where to head in order to fill that growing void.

Having spent the last two years eating eggs in every corner of Bristol, I feel fairly well qualified to tell you where in the city to head accordingly – enjoy!

Avocado on Toast

The Workhouse Café located at the bottom of St Michael’s Hill is not only charming but also serves the best avocado and poached egg on toast I’ve yet to have. The hint of lime and honey works to make this breakfast even the more special. Ideal for vegetarians and their friends alike!

Eggs Florentine

The Urban Standard is nestled in the middle of Gloucester road and, although I originally visited for supper, I sneakily caught a glimpse of their breakfast menu and quickly decided I had to head back for a spot of brunch. Their eggs Florentine served on toasted seeded bread and topped with nuts was a rustic twist on the classic, with eggs that were runny to perfection. The interior itself is a bit on the dark side, so this is perfect to lighten your mood and satisfy your cravings on a dreary morning.

Mushroom Truffles

Rosemarino was my first love when it came to brunch spots in Bristol. They are perfectly polished hosts who offer a rapid get away from usual student life. While I adore my usual pot of English breakfast tea and eggs Florentine (bacon on the side), never have mushrooms on toast brought me so much joy as the ones here. Creamy, parmesan and truffle mushrooms that are absolutely to die for!

Scrambled Eggs and Bacon

Brew is the perfect brunch spot, especially when sunny. In the middle of Whiteladies Road, this was my second year port of call every Friday morning. Not only are the staff incredibly, friendly bringing sunshine to your morning as well as the best iced lattes to your table, Brew’s service is quick, easy, friendly and its location is perfect for people watching. Your friends can pop in and join you on the way to their lectures but quite frankly I would rather sit all day here with iced latte in hand and scrambled eggs on the table. And for anyone with a sweet tooth the croissant cake is a sugar lover’s dream.
