In honor of March 8th being International Women’s Day, here are 13 female celebrities that exemplify female empowerment and serve as strong role models.

 

Zendaya

Why we love her:  She may only be 19 years old, but she is wise beyond her age and works to portray an honest self-image.  She stands against photoshopping images and recently called out Model Listed Magazine for photoshopping her hips and torso.

 

 

Rihanna

Why we love her: The self-proclaimed bad girl is carefree, lives life on her own terms, and  had a flawless response when a reporter asked her what she was looking for in a man.

 

Khloe Kardashian

Why we love her:  There is no denying that Khloe has graciously bounced back from a publicized divorce and near death experience of her ex Lamar Odom.  Her new book “Strong Looks Better Naked” outlines her testament to a physical, mental, and emotional strength.

 

 

Demi Lovato

Why we love her:  Demi is candid about her struggles with depression, an eating disorder, as well as Bipolar Disorder.  She is currently working with Congress to change the stigma surrounding mental health.

 

 

Chrissy Teigen

Why we love her:  Not only is her Twitter timeline filled with hysterical comebacks and relatable food cravings, but she also uses her platform to speak her mind and stand up to her haters.

 

 

Lady Gaga

Why we love her:  The famous singer attracted national attention after her powerful performance at the Oscars last Sunday.  She is a sexual assault survivor who emits strength despite her struggles and encourages other survivors to do the same.

Why we love her:  When she’s not taking care of her famous family, she travels and donates to refugee camps around the world.  It was recorded that The Jolie-Pitt family donated more than 8 million dollars in one year.

 

 

Lena Dunham

Why we love her:  She breaks the “Hollywood body” mold and shows women that they can be comfortable in their own skins, regardless of their body type.

 

 

 

Emma Watson

Why we love her:  The former Harry Potter star recently launched HeForShe– a campaign that fights encourages men to fight for gender equality and women’s rights.

 

 

Jessica Alba

Why we love her: The entrepreneur and working mom kick-started her own billion dollar business, The Honest Company, from scratch which produces eco-friendly body and baby products.

 

 

Taylor Swift

Why we love her: When she’s not on her world tour for her hit album 1989, TSwift is donating to cancer patients, public schools, charities, and even our very own UConn HuskyTHON.

 

Amber Rose

Why we love her:   Amber Rose empowers women to feel confident about their bodies and fights to put an end to body shaming.

 

 

Beyoncé

Why we love her:  We simply could not celebrate International Women’s Day without honoring the one and only Beyoncé​.  She is the greatest example of a working mom, performer, singer, dancer, wife, philanthropist, feminist, and overall reigning queen.
