Fun Apps that Make the Perfect Study Break

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UCD chapter.

We’re approaching finals once again, and we’ve all felt this before: a lack of motivation. It creeps on us slowly as we start feeling the unavoidable doom of studying for hours on end with little to no break. It doesn’t help to tell yourself you’ll only take a ten-minute break. You somehow end up opening your browser, and then finding yourself two seasons deep into Grey’s Anatomy. If you want to avoid this, download these four fun apps! They’ll give your brain a break, but won’t suck your entire day away!

1. The List App

One of my new favorite finds! This app was co-created by The Office writer B.J. Novak, and features hundreds of creative people making short lists about anything from “My Most Embarrassing Moments,” to “The Presidential Candidates Ranked by How Well They Rock a Quarter-Zip Pullover.” It sort of feels like a secret club for creative writers. Their “lists” will definitely give you a good chuckle.

2. Trivy

This game is a really difficult, but still fun, trivia pack. It’s guaranteed to stump you. I still have not been able to get through the general variety pack. They also have expansion packs for 99 cents about Harry Potter, music, and tons of YouTubers. The best part is: it doesn’t require wifi.

3. Dysh

Ever wanted to post everything you’ve ever eaten, but don’t want to clog your Instagram feed? Well, Dysh is the app for you. It’s exclusively for pictures of restaurant food, allowing you to rank the meal and briefly describe your eating experience. It is so new that the CEO and creator of the app will like every meal you post.  Not recommended if you’re hungry, but definitely recommended if you’re looking for new places to eat, or if you just appreciate good food.

4. Periscope

Now, don’t get too sucked into this one; it can be a time-drainer. However, this app allows you to watch livestreams from anywhere in the world, as well as archive them for later viewing. Celebrities, politicians, and more have all joined in on Periscope, and if you’re tired of the “same old” on Netflix and YouTube, this app is worth a try.

Download these apps for a quick, fun study break and then get back to the books! Good Luck!
