5 Student Friendly Affordable Mini-Breaks

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Durham chapter.

The Brief: Return flights under £80 and Hostels that are less than £10/night

PLEASE NOTE: CULTURE IS INCLUDED IN THE PRICE.

1)    Amsterdam

With Easyjet flights staring at £50 return and availability at the ultra cool ‘Flying Pig Hostel’ from £8.30/ night. What’s not to like? Obviously, there is the stereotypical ‘attraction’ of Amsterdam, but if the ‘local produce’ isn’t your thing… there’s the Van Gogh Museum, Rijksmuseum and the Anne Frank House (All of which have student discount!)

2)    Barcelona

Yes, Barcelona is just as fun as it sounds! You can check out the Gothic Quarter, La Rambla market place, or, the iconic Park Güell. My favourite thing to do is soak up the culture eating tapas and drinking sangria- but that’s just me! Worth noting the fantastic beaches in the Summer, pack your sunglasses!

3)    Berlin

Berlin is great all year round! Honestly one of the quirkiest and coolest places I’ve visited. There are obviously the icons: Brandenburg Gate, Berlin Wall and Reichstag Buildings! Not to mention the hauntingly beautiful Holocaust Memorial. The food portions are astronomical and the beer is free-flowing: It’s a yes from me.

4)    Nice

Want a taste of the South of France, without the St Tropez prices? ‘Nice’ is indeed nice. Best enjoyed over the Summer months, but well into September! Personally, I like a leisurely stroll down the Promenade des Anglais and a dip in the crystal blue French Riviera waters. But, there are oodles of cultural attractions as well!

5)    Rome

Last but not least, Roma! You really can’t go wrong with gelato and ancient Roman architecture. Did I mention incredible Pizza? Yeah, Rome is a no-brainer if you want to live the good life. Hey, if it’s good enough for Audrey Hepburn- it’s good enough for me.

I am currently in my final year of studying English Literature at Durham University, England. I am hoping to become a journalist in the future, but in the mean time, I enjoy cheerleading, fashion and travelling, and of course, being the editor of Durham's Her Campus!
