Living on your own- There is no reason to worry about this.  Everybody is on the same boat here.  Freshman year is a new experience for everybody and this is part of the process that you will grow to love.

Community Showers- They are not as bad as you think.  The bathrooms are cleaned on the daily. But, do NOT forget shower shoes. Seriously.

Having a roommate- You may or may not know them, but it may be a blessing in disguise. You can have a built in friend.  You may end up being best friends.  What is most important is that you need to keep an open mind. If it goes south, you just might get a great story out of it!

Being alone or not making friends- Step out of your comfort zone!  There is always something occurring on campus and things to do. The more you go out of your room the more people you can meet. Always check Inside JCU for an update on events put on for students.

Stress with academics- School is challenging, but nothing you can’t handle. There are plenty of resources on campus that give you the tools of surviving stress from classes. Club Lib is always a sanctuary when it comes to overcoming stress.

Not being with my family- Your family is only a phone call away.  This day and age there is never a time you can’t see them.  There is skype, facetime, and oovoo. It can be difficult at first, but believe it or not, the distance can bring you closer.

Harder than High school- College is a balancing act.  You need to be able to prioritize and time manage. Just as long as you keep a planner or write down your schedule, this is completely manageable.

Café food- You may not like the food, but every day is different.  The food is not special, but you can always count on the salad bar. Make sure you get creative about it and if not… there’s always Einstein’s!

Falling out of a lofted bed- You don’t have to loft! You can buy risers or just have a low bed. Or, if you’re up to it, bunk.

Not remembering all the names of people you have met- Just casually ask again. You can always associate the person’ name with something they like and then you will know two things! It is important to understand that everyone is in the same boat, so people will not be offended as long as you are nice about it.

Running out of meal swipes or money- This is always a fear, but you can simply add more money. The meal plans are reasonable and if you can manage your money you won’t have a problem. Just be smart about rationing.

Scared of switching majors- Picking out a major is a big decision.  If the first one isn’t right, you can always pick another one. Nobody has life completely figured out, so do not feel bad or embarrassed if you do not have a 10-year plan!

Afraid of not knowing anyone in classes or clubs- This is how you meet people! You can join a variety of clubs or intramural sports, or join a fraternity/sorority! The people you meet in college will become your greatest friends, so cherish this time with them and remember to have fun and be yourself.
