Young Americans for Liberty Commemorate 13th Anniversary of Iraq War

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Gettysburg chapter.
The Gettysburg College chapter of Young Americans for Liberty (YAL) has decorated the lawn facing Musselman Library, nicknamed Stine Lake, with small American flags to pay their respects for the American lives lost overseas in Iraq. Signs attached to the Adirondack chairs surrounding the lawn (now ripped off by fierce winds circling campus) proclaimed that we are a Generation of War and that the 4,488 lives lost must serve as a reminder of our invasion of Iraq.

While many people on campus support the peaceful opinion, several students have taken to social media to note that there was no mention of Iraqi losses, only American soldiers. This begs the question: if the Iraqi war was so bad, then why aren’t we remembering them as well? Regardless, Young Americans for Liberty created a moving exhibit of the cost of war and sparked a conversation about what it means to grow up in a generation that has only known an active military.
