What are you involved in at Pitt?
Elena has managed to keep herself very busy here at Pitt for the last three years. When she first got here, she got involved with the Italian club and had so much fun that she decided she wanted to do even more. So this year she became a member of Arabic Language and Cultural Club.
How many languages do you know how to speak?
Elena has been spending the last three years becoming bilingual. Besides being able to speak perfect English, which in today’s day and age is impressive enough in itself, she has learned to speak Italian fluently. She is also in the midst of learning Arabic because she is just that cool and wants to be very diverse in the languages she speaks.
What countries have you been to?
Elena has been all over the world from a high school trip to Costa Rica, to studying abroad in Italy twice, and also spending some time in Germany, the Czech Republic, and the Bahamas.
What was your favorite country you have been able to explore?
When I asked Elena what her favorite country was, she had a hard time choosing between two: “Both Italy and Germany, for similar and different reasons. The history, the people, architecture, the culture.” When she said that, it just made me want to go there even more than I already want to!
Who is your celebrity crush?
Elena has been a fan of Kris Letang even since he became a Pittsburgh Penguin back in 2005. She has been to numerous games to cheer on her favorite guy in the sports world. Who can blame her? I bet we would all take a night on the ice with the great Kris Letang. Elena has a sports celebrity crush and a very good looking man crush out in Hollywood, Shemar Moore. He is best known for his role as Dereck Morgan on Criminal Minds for those of you who don’t know who he is. Don’t worry, because I didn’t know who he was. But I imagine we can all agree with Elena that we would like him to save our lives.
What do you look for in a guy?
When I asked Elena what she looks for in a guy she said, “The most important trait is kindness and being a nice person. After that, humor, compassion, being interesting. My words to live by are to treat others how you want to be treated, so I try to find someone who kind of embodies the same thing.”
Describe yourself in three words?
Elena chose empathetic, passionate, and open-minded.
