An Open Letter to My Upcoming Senior Year

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at C of C chapter.

To be honest, I had no idea that this would happen so soon.

Your parents tell you. Your friends who are older than you tell you. Peers. Mentors. “College will go by faster than you realize.” Now, as I finish up my second semester of junior year, I am now starting to realize just how true that statement actually is.

When I received my acceptance letter three years ago, I remember feeling on top of the world, ready to experience a whole new environment that I’ve never experienced before. I was ready for new opportunities, a new group of friends, and memories that would be filled of laughter, learning, and all of the ups and downs in between. How is it possible that all of these things will be different a year from now? I truly feel as if I just moved into my freshman year dorm yesterday. And now, I’m preparing and trying to figure out what furniture I should bring for my new place next year.

I’ll make one thing clear; I am grateful. Beyond grateful. My experience on this campus has been filled with more opportunities than I ever thought possible. I have made amazing connections, found lifelong friends, learned what I wanted to do with my life and have had more fun than I ever thought possible. Every experience I have had at this university has shaped me into the person I am today. I don’t even know how to begin to say thank you to the place that helped me find myself.

As I go into my last year, I promise to not take anything for granted. I promise to live in the moment with my closest friends. I plan to work hard to get to where I want to be when I graduate (or at least somewhere close). I hope to take in this amazing environment as much as I can for my last year. I want to leave my legacy.

Thank you for all of the amazing times I’ve had, and for all of the amazing times I’ll have during my senior year.

Here’s to the past and what’s to come.

Love,

A Soon to be Senior
