To Anyone Who Doesn’t Think They Matter From The Ones Who Know You Do

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Utah chapter.

Dear Someone Important,

I know it feels like you are the only person who has ever felt this way, like you are the only person in the world. Or maybe it seems that the entire world is against you. Behind your smile, I know there is pain, memories, insecurities and lessons. Just because others can’t see them, doesn’t mean they are not there. We each carry some burden that is unique and specific to each of us. But you are not alone, I promise. Chances are the person you sat next to in class or across from at the library has the same thoughts and feelings you do. They feel ugly, worthless and unlovable.

This is a beautiful world made up of extraordinary things. And one of those things is you. Beauty isn’t about having a pretty face, the hottest fashion trends, or the most friends. What makes a person beautiful is a beautiful mind, a beautiful heart, and a beautiful soul.

Self-worth is not determined by the money in your bank, or the trials you have faced. Self-worth is crafted by your ability to recognize you strengths and weaknesses and love yourself for both. No one person can do everything perfectly. But every person can do something perfectly. And when you start to love yourself, you’ll be able to accept love from others

No amount of words scribbled on this page will ever amount to the extraordinarily, courageous, wonderful, amazing person you are inside and out. You are beautiful, and you are intelligent and you are brave. You are important. I can promise you, to at least one person you are important. More than one person even. And one of those people, is me.

I don’t have to know your favorite foods, your hopes, fears. or even your name to know that you are significant. You are deserving, loving, valuable, intelligent, creative, brave, and strong and I will continue to believe that even after you start to believe it yourself.

Sincerely,

Someone Important
