Class Registration Dilemma

So you’ve meet with your advisor and you’ve got all of your classes for next semester picked out. You’ve created the perfect schedule and you’re very excited for next semester. You sit down to register, type in your advising code, enter the CRNs into the boxes and click submit changes. You think you’re home free, then you notice that you’re only registered for two out of your five classes and you have no idea what happened. There are a few possibilities including; you simply entered something wrong when adding classes, you haven’t taken the prerequisite for the class, or the class you wanted is full. You’ve just experienced your first registration headache or maybe, like me, you are no stranger to the woes of class registration. There are a few solutions you can try when this happens to you.

First, stop panicking! You will have a schedule for next semester; it will just take some extra work.

Second, check your CRNs to make sure you have entered them in correctly. Sometimes it’s as simple as changing one number in the code to get you into the class you wanted. Next, check prerequisites to make sure you have taken the necessary ones. If not, consider taking that prerequisite so that you are prepared for the next time around.  If you have, then you may need special permission to get into the class. Email your advisor to ensure you are not blocked from a class you should be able to take.

Third, visit this site and look for more classes that fit into your schedule. While it’s nice to rely on our advisor’s suggestions for classes and it’s great when we get our first choice classes, sometimes in a pinch you must do some quick research and make a decision on the spot about a new class. Lastly, if you’re in a situation where the class you need is full you can try emailing the professor; if you really need to take the class chances are they will add you.

Lastly, when registration time comes around next semester, try preparing multiple options for each class, that way if one falls through you have 2 more to replace it. For more tips on class registration visit the UNCG Registration Guide- Fall 2016.

Hope these tips help those of us registering in the coming weeks! Good luck!
