The weather lately has been INSANE. It seems that one day BC is a wind tunnel, then humid like the jungle, followed by hot like summer, and then IT SNOWS. I’ve never seen spring snow before, but waking up to a winter wonderland in April was not something that I enjoyed. Needless to say, I am quite unamused by the sporadic weather patterns we have had lately and to top it off, the sudden changes in weather got me sick.
The following is a dramatic interpretation of what it’s like getting sick:
9:30 am: I woke up feeling kind of funky. Looking out the window and noticing the gross snowy skies, I blame my funk on the weather and carry on with my day.
11:00 am: Is that a scratchy throat I feel? I’m in denial….this is ridiculous….I conclude that I just slept with the heat on too high and my throat is irritated from it.
1:00 pm: The scratchy throat is coming in for the win… and I’m losing this battle. I’ve also been blessed with a headache.
3:00 pm: I’m still in denial that I’m sick so I’m just laying low but now, I’m feeling really cold.
3:30 pm: No way this can be a fever… Being sick now is not an option it CANNOT happen
4:30 pm: I’m beginning to think of back up plans if I get sick and can’t do my work: Who do I get notes from? Can I really turn in my paper a day early if I get sick? The biggest dilemma though: CAN I GO OUT THIS WEEKEND?!?!
6:30 pm: I’m super hungry so hey that’s good… No way I’m sick but lets face it, I’m always hungry.
7:30 pm: I’m driving everyone around me insane with my hypochondriacal “what ifs.” According to me, I’m going to get strep and get all of my friends and the entire hall infected…oh no.
8:00 pm: I quickly chug Emergen-C and take precautionary Advil.
8:30 pm: The time has come: chills hit, my stomach is in knots, my throat is burning. I run to grab sweatpants and a sweatshirt in hopes that I don’t die from this terrible disease. I complain about being sick to everyone around me and they either look at me like I’m crazy or offer kind condolences.
9:30 pm: Full blown panic mode has begun. Thank God for precautionary Advil because if it wasn’t for that, I would actually be dead right now.
10:30 pm: I’m praying that I only partially die from sickness #Blessed.
3:00 am: I’m rudely awoken by a terrible sore throat… too bad my water is across the room. This is an SOS situation.
7:00 am: I’ve given up; I’ve succumbed to sickness. Thinking about how awful the next few days will be, I send the “death has come so stay away from me” text to my friends because this is what death is like for a student.
Hoping that you don’t get sick because of this crazy weather? May good health be ever in your favor.
