This New “Burn Book” Account is Taking Over Instagram

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BU chapter.

With Instagram being one of the most popular forms of social media, it’s not surprising when accounts that veer from posting strictly personal photographs are created. There have been accounts dedicated to everything under the sun, the more popular subjects being fitness, food and fashion. However, when the Instagram account topgirl.studio started posting images that called out society’s superficial tendencies through social media, people were in awe. The format of the posts, paralleling pages of a diary, have an uncanny resemblance to Regina George’s infamous Burn Book.

The account, referred to as the “Regina George of Instagram” by Nylon, was created by a British graphic designer and recent Central St. Martins graduate who goes by the name “iGirl Babe.” Each of her post reveal an Instagram phenomena, poking fun at the shallow tendencies of Instagram users worldwide.

Her posts, which have reached thousands of viewers as well as recognition from notable publications, will be turned into a book titled iGirl. It is available for preorder now.

The creator of the account explains the roots of iGirl by saying, “I wanted to create something that would make girls laugh but also wasn’t just nonsense, there was a meaning behind it. iGirl is a bit of fun, yes but it also opens up our eyes to the bigger picture: how reliant we have become online. It’s all about ‘internet goals and having the perfect feed.’ Which when we take a step back and think about it, it’s all ridiculous but we all do it, including me.”

For those begging for more, the account also features a link to Top Girl Studio’s website, where people can learn more about iGirl and other projects.

“iGIRL is a satirical publication inspired by all the instagram users out there. Using my own experiences and other females on the social media platform, it depicts what life is like online in 2016,” reads a page on the website.

So what do you think, collegiettes? Are you guilty of some of the content feats on the account? Be sure to refresh your Instagram feeds for more by Girl Babe!
