Luke Ngyuen ’19

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Amherst chapter.
Meet Luke Ngyuen ’19 is a Conneticut native who has great ambitions for the rest of his time.  Get to know him with HC Amherst!

Tell me about where are you from:

I’m from Old Lyme, CT, which is a small town near the water. Nothing too exciting goes on there, but it’s a nice place to relax with family.

How does the weather at Amherst compare to the weather back home?:

The weather at Amherst is about the same as it is back home. Being from the northeast the cold wasn’t a big adjustment to make.

Why did you choose to attend Amherst?:

I choose to attend Amherst because it gave me the best chance to do what I wanted academically and athletically. Amherst gives me the chance to pursue my academic interests, like going abroad, while also playing soccer, which something I wouldn’t have been able to do at the other schools I was considering.

What are you interested in both academically and leisurely?:
Academically I would consider myself more of a humanities person, mostly because I’m awful at math. My favorite thing to do leisurely is hangout with friends and watch sports.

What are you passionate about the most?:

I’m most passionate about soccer. Playing soccer has become one of the few places I am able to truly relax and forget about things like studying for an upcoming test, or which major seems more appealing. It provides me with an escape I can’t get from anything else.

What are your plans for the rest of your time at Amherst and beyond:

My plan for the rest of my time at Amherst is to have a great time, while trying to maintain a respectable GPA. My plans for after college…. Who knows.

If you could make one change to the world, playful or serious, what would it be?:
The one thing I would change is having more people bring the fire on Thursday nights.

What’s something you’ve always wanted to say but never got the chance to say it?:

“Mom I got an A on my math test!
