As the end of the year approaches BC students are filled with mixed emotions. As we finish up our finals we will prepare to head home leaving our BC home behind for the summer. It’s bittersweet. The Office helps us to sum up our conflicting feelings as the year comes to a close.
Looking back on the year and realizing how quickly it passed:
It feels like just yesterday we were wearing our Superfan shirts on Shea Field and singing “For Boston” in Alumni Stadium.
Thinking about all of the philosophers’ names that you now know from Perspectives:
Looking back on all of the papers we have written and the exams we have taken, we gain a sense of pride in our new college brains.
Reflecting on all of the wisdom you have gained from THE Professor Cronin:
Whether or not you actually attended one of her talks, everyone has learned something about love at BC (even if it’s just how much you love White Mountain).
Planning the next four empty months of your life:
Trying to find a summer job, internship, or just a plan to relax and reconnect with your hometown friends can be difficult.
Preparing for your finals:
When 40% of your grade depends on the very end of the year, it can be hard not to feel overwhelmed.
Dreaming of the meals in our future:
Home-cooked dinners and fresh (never frozen) fruits are in our futures. We will temporarily be able to forget about the soggy vegetables and bland rice at Mac as we devour our food at home.
Realizing that we are coming home to curfews and rules:
At the end of the year many of us will go home to find two of our own personal RAs enforcing their own Code of Conduct.
Trying to think about what you will do without your school friends for the summer:
After spending so much time with your friends in such a confined space, it is so hard to imagine the adjustment to life without them within walking distance.
Moving one step closer to adulthood:
As each year passes we inch closer and closer to the dreaded “G” word and the responsibilities that wait for us on the other side.
I hope that everyone is able to survive the end of the year and get through the mix of bittersweet emotions. Have a great summer!
