6 Reasons to Attend SUVSA’s Xuan

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Seattle U chapter.

Over the last few weeks, you may have seen a couple of students running across campus carrying nong Lá (bamboo hats), áo dài (traditional Vietnamese dresses), and giant paper lotuses. This could mean only one thing. It’s XUAN SEASON.

Seattle U’s Vietnamese Student Assocation (SUVSA) hosts a cultural show called Xuan that bridges the Vietnamese and American culture. In Vietnamese, “Xuân” means Spring. The theme for this Spring’s show is “Tôi Là Người Việt Nam,” which translates into “I am Vietnamese.”  The show was explore the identity and the meaning behind being Vietnamese- American.

Date: May 7, 2016

Location: Seattle U’s Campion Ballroom

Doors open: 4:00 pm

Show starts: 5:00 pm

Tickets: $15 tickets are sold online

Attire: Semi- formal

Here are six reasons why you should attend Xuan this year!

1. The very first Xuan was hosted in 2005 and it’s still going strong! This will be SUVSA’s 11th year continuing the legacy. Join us and be a part of a memorable night!

2. Lam, one of our performance chairs, believes it’s a great “chance to immerse yourself in the beauty of Vietnamese culture.”

3. Come watch a heartfelt skit, an ao dai fashion show, and breathtaking dances ranging from modern to traditional to even ballroom!

4. Delicious Vietnamese dishes including desserts will be served!

5. Julia, one of the donation chairs, is proud that Xuan is a “a student run show! It’s a great chance to see your peers put work into an amazing show.”

6. SUVSA will donate its profits to UNAVSA’s 15-16 Collective Philanthropy Project: Kids Without Borders (KWB). Throughout this year, SUVSA has participated in KWB’s campaign: “Teach Me To Fish,” which provides an exit plan for life after orphans leave at the age of 18.

Spring is in the air and so are campus events! We will see you at one of SU’s club events and hopefully at Xuan!
